“Very basic, very friendly, slightly eccentric”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

This B&B is at the very heart of Enna. It's small and cramped, but perfectly adequate as a place to lay your head. The host family are enormously helpful and anxious to please - the padrone very anxious and rather perplexed, with no English, but daughter Laura speaks excellent English and is helpfully available on the end of a phone. The rooms are small and dark - but adequate, and our bathroom was clean and excellent. A heater was put in on a cold wet day (when there really isn't anywhere much to go in Enna!) Breakfast is fine with bread, prosciutto and cheese, and a croissant per head, served in a dim dark cellar (where an extension was clearly being built the other side of the wall!) There is a slim, slow lift to the top floors, with a very narrow staircase alongside as alternative. Parking is not as nearly available as suggested.

In the tourism market, Enna positions itself as the centre of Sicily and one of its highest points. Given its location in Enna, the Proserpina BnB could fairly claim to be in the centre of the centre of Sicily. Smack in the middle of town. The street even narrows as it squeezes by the front door. So it has the location, but in a city where parking is at a premium and the streets are as narrow as spaghettini, that isn't always a plus. We were given the impression by Proserpina staff that parking was available - it didn't quite turn out like that. But as always in Sicily, everyone makes do.
The Proserpina has easily accessible and reliable wifi, very basic breakfast with variable coffee depending on which member of the family is playing barrista that morning. The room we had was comfortable and spacious enough. And the family is very friendly and helpful. The lift is slow and the stairs are steep. But it is one or the other.

We were travelling by bike for 10 days and came without booking. Good system by pressing the door bell who is transferred to the mobile phone of the owner who arrived in 10 minutes. he speaks no english so you have to understand he is arriving. The room was ok but a bit dark because of the lack of a window, just a small one in top of the room. There was a door who couldn't be opened because of construction work at the other side of the door. It seems that they are enlarging with some more rooms. The breakfast is in the ''cave'' so also dark but of a good quality. Free wifi. Nice owners, daughter Laura speaks english.
The bathroom seemed newly renovated bust wasn't quit finished with some elements missing.
Good bed, no noise from the street, we had the room at the end of the staircase to the right.

Room Tip: When you travel by car finding a parking place will be difficult, no place not in front of the B&...

We stayed here for one night at the end of our trip to Sicily. I don't think, for the price, that anyone should be under any illusions that the accommodation is 4 or 5 star. It's quite basic (with decor that tends to the eccentric/peculiar here and there) and depending on the room you choose (we were shown several and allowed to pick) there may be a lift or spiral staircase to negotiate.
All this fades a bit compared to the positives:
The friendliness of the welcome and helpfulness of the staff. We were having trouble finding a parking space and the really lovely girl in reception (Lana??) drove round with us until we found a good, secure place. She recommended places to eat and drink and gave a good overview of the area.
The rooms were clean and warm. It was freezing outside but the room was well-heated and comfortable. The bathroom was small but very clean and everything worked. I slept very well.
Breakfast in the morning was lovely. A good selection of pastries, breads, fruit and juices, nice coffee and friendly service.
Overall, for the price, I thought it quite a good B&B, with the friendly welcome adding an extra point.

We stayed here for two nights and were quite pleased. An outstanding shower with lots of hot water more than made up for the extremely cold weather. The stairs were no problem if you're reasonably healthy and not inebriated; otherwise there is an elevator. The extremely helpful staff went out of their way to insure we had a pleasant visit.

Room Tip: The Kobe room has an excellent shower.

In summary the rooms were quite basic and definitely on the budget end, but we found the staff very helpfull, the location to be excelent and the breakfast to be very good.

The owner was very flexible with our booking, we had mistakenly booked the wrong dates so he was very understanding and changed our booking for us!
