The Lombardy Castel at Enna is the highest point in central Sicily and such was a military stronghold to anybody who ruled the island.
Although we visited the fortress in pouring rain we could recognize it's size and ability to control the area far away.

Must go if near to Enna. Entrance is free aswell. Inside the castle there is a very beautiful garden and the view from the tower is one of a kind at about 1000m altitude. Can watch Etna and Madonnie park aswell. Not to miss.

This area and the castle on the rock played a strategical role in Sicily's role. There are now mostly ruins, free access, curated by volunteers.

A well-preserved castle with reasonably good interpretations. From the tower, you can see most of Sicily on a clear day. When we visited, there was a falconry demonstration in progress - truly amazing.

Well worth a visit. Free entrance. Worth climbing up to the top of the Torre Pisano to get excellent views. Information boards have English translations.

We went on a Friday afternoon - entrance is free and we were free to have a walk around the area - lovely views from the top part of the castle

We picked up some free guides at a nearby tourist bureau which were in English and Italian. The tour is also free, but they did not have an English-speaking guide that day. The climb wasn't too bad and the views made every step worthwhile! What a glorious countryside! It was a clear day so we got to see Mount Etna!
