“Best Hotel and Customer Service Ever!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

After being completely shafted by the Austin Friar Hotel we stayed at the Greville Arms Hotel. Our stay was so good that we ended up staying two nights! We arrived late, around 11pm, the night porter on duty was so helpful and such delight! He even offered to make us a cup of tea after our long journey. The hotel is fantastic, I love the lighting candles everywhere, gives the place such a soft and romantic ambience. Siobhan helped me find a fantastic beauty salon, The First Floor, it's located just around the corner. Annemarie kindly printed a few important documents for me. I had a little bit of a cold so the barman made me a few hot blackcurrants and refused to take any money for them. We ate at the bar, the food is great! The ladies at the breakfast corner were super nice also, ensured that we had enough to eat and plenty tea and coffee. The rooms/reception/bar/breakfast area were all spotlessly clean. Such a lovely experience, we will definitely be back!!

My husband and I stayed in the Grevile Arms on Saturday 5 October. From the moment we arrived until we departed the next day we were treated with great courtesy by all the staff. We had no difficulty with parking. Our room was to the rear of the hotel and while overlooking the car park it was a lovely well equipped and clean room.We had an evening meal in the restaurant and it was really good and the service was excellent. There was a band in the bar that night and it attracted a large crowd and was very lively.

The Greville Arms is a very decent 3 star country hotel. While some areas may need a refurbishment it retains a charm which is not easy to find in other more modern hotels.

Where do a start - a truly awful experience. When we arrived there was no car park space and were told to double park while one of the staff moved his car, the not very helpful staff took 45 minutes to sort this out!!

The carpets in room were stained and filthy, the grouting and tiling in the bathroom looked like it was applied by a 2 year old and was filthy, the toilet was stained, the light switch was broken, the bed was rock hard and the fitted sheet didn't fit. The room we had overlooked the "beer garden" and therefore the smokers! There was no heat in the room and no way to switch it on.

We arrived back late from a wedding in the much nicer Annebrook hotel and stood outside ringing doorbell and knocking on door for 15 minutes in the rain before we were allowed back in , and got no apology when the porter eventually answered the door.

I wouldn't stay there again even if the room was free !

The Greville Arms is steeped in history and takes its role as the town's central hotel seriously. The reception area is plush, the bar is traditional and very friendly, the rooms are very comfortable and the choice of eating establishments within walking distance is good. Value for money is very good too. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed here just for one night - from walking in we felt so welcome. Anne-Marie at reception was particularly friendly.
We had two rooms 224 & 225 overlooking the car park. The rooms were beautifully decorated & spacious, I loved the bathroom floor tiles, the shower was very efficient.
The bars downstairs were hospitable & the Magdalene Statue was fascinating as was the little museum.
We ate from the early bird menu - great food & excellent value.
Sorry to have only stayed one night, next time we are close to Mullingar we will definitely stay again.
Danny Byrne's bar next door is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Rooms over car park appeared quiet
