I must say I loved this B & B . The friendly patrons Martin and Aideen were a credit to the lovely atmosphere created.. The accommodation was first class and the breakfast was splendid .... You could avail of a cooked meal if you wished.. I indulged and the food was superb.. Aideens deserts have to be eaten to be believed. This is a farm setting B&B and you can walk the lands which bring you down to the lake shores.. The views are breath taken.. I will return again in the summer and stay a little longer than two days as the fishing is good ........
A real gem of a B&B......

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this B&B. We had a large room with a canopy bed, a sitting area and some nice antiques. The main sitting room was great as well with views over the farm and down to the river. We took a short walk around the grounds and met Sonny and Cher their 2 "pet" donkeys - we should have brought some treats along! Breakfast was really good with freshly squeezed orange juice and fantastic breads. All in all a very good spot. Would return and recommend to friends.

We stayed here in August 2013. We had a lovely room with antique furniture. The sitting room for guests is very comfortable, with a wide view of the farmland and the lake in the distance. Lots of interesting reading materials were provided. The hosts were helpful in every way possible. We enjoyed feeding the donkeys, Sonny and Cher. I took a morning walk out to the lake (Lough Owel), climbing over the best stiles I have ever seen, and photographing the cows, the lake, the sheep, the vegetation, and landscape with the RR tracks running through. We would definitely stay here again.

We came accross this lovely B&B a few years back and are glad to report nothing has changed.
A short drive from Mullingar (5 mins.) You arrive up the drive underneath a canopy of beech and birch trees to be warmly greeted by the owner Aideen who immediately tells us to make ourselves at home while she put the kettle on for tea.
We chose our room, called Lough Owel (all the rooms are named after local Loughs) it was warm and furnished with antiques including a big fine bed. We chose this room as it had a lovely view accross the meadow to Lough Owel. The ensuite was clean and tidy with soft towels and a hot Power-shower to help unwind after a hard days walking.
What really sets this place apart is the wonderful breakfast cooked by Aideen and served in the
antique and book filled lounge.
A full Irish is our recommendation with sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, black and white puddings all accompanied by home made bread and preserves, forget the diet enjoy !!
Also did we mention Sony and Cher ? Two sweet little donkeys who like to be made a fuss of.
We had a lovely stay here and will be back again, next time with my fishing rods !

We booked this B and B because we needed to be within about an hours easy drive to Dublin airport, but we were treated to so much more. Aideen and Martin are wonderful hosts and welcomed us with a much needed cuppa and homemade treats. Our wonderful comfortable four poster bed was in a delightful bedroom in this family home on a working farm. It overlooks pretty Lough Owel (pronounced Ool!) just outside Mullingar, at the end of a tree lined drive. Breakfast was a delight with Aideen even making fresh lemon curd for us, after we mentioned we liked it! Feeding the donkeys Sonny and Cher was a bonus and a walk to the edge of the Lough a welcome change from hard pavements and such a pretty sight. Aideen is the type of wonderful person you feel you have known a long time, and we were sorry we had only one night available to stay with these lovely folk. Thank you Aideen and Martin! We will always remember our stay at Lough Owel Lodge..

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the view over the Lough and the four poster bed!

We stayed at Lough Owel Lodge for two nights as we visited County Westmeath, exploring the region that my husband's family came from. Aideen, her daughter Maive and husband Martin, were amazing hosts. Aideen arranged for a genealogist to do some research for us and Martin gave us some great tips on where to look and who to talk to in Killucan, the great-great's birth place. Our breakfasts where delicious and the rooms were very comfortable. We were made to feel at home and could completely relax, especially after a stressful start to our trip! We were traveling with our adult children who loved the inn as much as my husband and I.

We toured Ireland for just under two weeks, staying at bed & breakfast spots throughout the country. Lough Owel Lodge was wonderful - the owners were friendly and helpful and very hospitable (especially since we checked in late). We had hoped it would be close enough to walk into city center but it certainly required a drive - especially the dark streets. Breakfast was lovely and the grounds were beautiful - Sonny and Cher (the donkeys) were an animal highlight.
