My husband and I spent several days exploring Ireland and stayed in a variety of accommodations from the occasional luxury hotel, but more frequently in hotels designed for the traveler.
Bloomfield House, near Mullingar, is a stately hotel in a lovely setting. The rooms are nicely furnished, perhaps a bit outdated, but comfortable; staff very friendly and accommodating. We arrived fairly early, and although our room was ready, the receptionist let us know a room with a garden view would be ready in a short time if we cared to wait. We had a beer in the bar area and in less than an hour were treated to a lovely room with a great view; well worth the wait.
We stayed on a Saturday night, reasonable rates through Expedia.ie. ‘Twas the season for First Communions and weddings and the hotel was crowded. But our room was quiet. We had a view of the lawn and gardens and the Bouncy House Castle that was set up for the pleasure of the younger set. Fun to watch all that kid-energy as they played soccer, bounced, and just had fun running all over and wearing themselves out. Maybe some would be put off by that, but we enjoyed the exuberance.
Our dinner in the restaurant was outstanding; wonderful Irish beef, winter vegetables and of course, potatoes. Dessert was lovely. It’s been a long time since I have sat down to a table with such a formal place setting and that added an elegant touch. Breakfast buffet the following morning was very good with a choice of full or light breakfast.
All in all, Bloomfield House is a very comfortable, welcoming place to stay; several steps above your usual overnight hotel and accommodations that focus on the guest.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are very nice... upper floors are quieter. Good customers often receiv...

we had booked this holiday through Glenton Tours, this was our first time using this company, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. Our driver Derek, made the whole experience highly enjoyable. Now to Bloomfield House Hotel,This is a beautifully appointed building, set in stunning countryside with views to die for.It also caters for the more energetic amongst us! with a gym, sauna, and a number of different therapies. This seems to be an on going trend these days,as most hotels seem to offer these facilities.I am a great fan of the English breakfast, especially when on holiday. It's quite remarkable what you can manage to shove down your throat when there is no rush, and you are completely relaxed. But,things seemed to change when we came to dinners. The menus,I am afraid to say is best described as being long on style but short on substance. Bloomfield House seemed to have reached new levels in descriptive syntax,as each course came with anything up to five lines of description. These wildly enthusiastic descriptions may be fine for Michelin star establishments, however the food served at the Bloomfield was not of Michelin star standard.
The starter selection,on the whole, was quite adequate, with a good selection of starters, including the obligatory vegetarian option. My only gripe was the repetition of root vegetable soup, which seemed to appear on every menu, surely we can be a bit more adventourous! I and my wife had the beef choice, sorry but I have forgotten how wonderfully this was described.Frankly any description would not have done justice to what was actually served. The beef was overcooked beyond belief and served in overly thick slices. The chicken, which again seemed to feature as a regular item was also overcooked. The vegetables and potatoes were served separately, and for the most part were perfectly edible Just as a matter of interest .can anyone tell me when melange with a an accent became the the new buzz
word in gastronomy? What is wrong with "mixed"? In conclusion for the most part the main course alternatives may be best described as adequate, but I certainly could not recommend Bloomfield House for its gastronomy. Finally the desserts.thing did improve quite drastically with a good and tasty selection of desserts and a nice cheese board. It is a pity that an otherwise excellent hotel was badly let down by its menu, save for breakfast, which for me, was the highlight of my stay

Room Tip: all rooms were more than adequate, try for the suites which I gather were fantastic.

We recently attended a wedding and stayed overnight in the Bloomfield House Hotel.
The staff were friendly and very helpful on the day. Food was fantastic and well presented for the wedding and the waiting stasff were very good. Breakfast the following morning was lovely and the buffet style ment that you could eat as much as you wanted and it was very hot and fresh. The rooms were comfortable and staff were very obliging to us late that night when our daughter needed food and the kitchen was closed. Overall the facilites are very good with swimming pool and spa and being near the lake allows for scenic walks and beautiful views to the back of the hotel

Room Tip: In some areas some rooms in the hotel have steps in the corridor leading up to some rooms. Make sure...

I review on tripadvisor all the time and they are normally good ones however this hotel is basic and old and in need of redecorating! A real example of rip off Ireland, we had dinner included but sirloin steak was €7 extra each, that's fair enough but when it comes out overdone and tasteless we were disappointed. Breakfast was very poor also everything was burned from my husbands bacon and sausages to my pancakes!! To top it all off we went to check out and we were charged €10 for our 2 year olds dinner even though we had prepaid for dinner to be included. When i complained about this the girl at reception said "well you got a very good rate". We had just come from another 4star hotel and there was no comparison at all. Won't be staying here again or recommending to anyone.
