“Perfect for families of all ages!”
Reviewed September 19, 2011

When my parents in law were looking for somewhere to celebrate their Golden Wedding with their children and grandchildren we knew it would be a tall order. The family comprised 11 adults and 12 children ranging in age from 15 to 5. The wonderful staff at Ashley Park could not have been more helpful and accommodating. From the moment that we made the reservation to the day we (sadly) said goodbye nothing was too much trouble. The massive Irish breakfasts set us all up for the day. Hilarious hours were spent in the rowing boat on the lake. The grounds to explore were full of adventures and freedom for the younger children. We were made welcome wherever we went and Ashley Park was truly a home from home making the holiday an unforgettable experience. I cannot recommend it too highly!

My husband and I spent two nights at this charming country house for a much needed break. The room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable, the staff helpful and friendly, food delicious and the garden and lake delightful . Will definitely come back again, maybe for a large family gathering or selfishly for another weekend on our own!

We spent two weeks during the month of June traveling around Ireland and we were so lucky to come across Ashley Park House, from the Hidden Ireland guide!

Ashley Park House is located about 40 minutes from Shannon airport in North Tipperary, just outside the small town of Nenagh. We got in to Ashley Park at about 8pm and were greeted by Sean Mounsey, a wonderful country gentleman who is full of stories about the house and the local area. We were quickly escorted into the beautiful drawing room, where a pot of tea and home made cake promptly appeared. We sat and chatted for about an hour enjoying the wonderful cake and tea. It was a wonderful warm night, with a magical setting with open french doors leading to the veranda outside. We could hear the abundant wildlife outside which populated the lakeside.

I can honestly say we had the best nights of sleep of our entire trip at Ashley Park House. The beds are big and comfortable, the rooms are full of antiques, and the view of the lake from our bedroom was magical.

The following day we met Mary, the housekeeper, she served us a wonderful Irish Breakfast, with eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and coffee. We also met another American couple who were travelling the opposite direction as we were. It was fun to hear their stories and get some advice about places we hadn't been yet.

That day we explored some of the local towns, Nenagh, and Birr. Both towns have traditional Irish streets with old store fronts lots of pubs with great food and traditional music.

That night we returned to Ashley Park it was late in the evening so we went straight to bed, and then off to Kilkenney in the morning. We said goodbye to Sean and Mary and thanked them for their wonderful hospitality and promised to return in the future, which I fully intend to do whenever I have the chance again!

Ashley Park is a very special place, that promises great sleep, great food and great hosts, and succeeds in delivering on all counts and more! I can't praise this place enough!

And thank you for all your kindness and great hospitality!

Brad and Jennie

I visited Ashley Park House with a friend as a treat for her 40th birthday and we just wanted some quiet time and to get away from it all. Ashley Park didn't disappoint - it was quirky and old world and it felt like a home rather than a business. Margaret, the owner, was charming and couldn't be helpful enough. I would recommend Ashley Park for any occasion - birthday, new year, wedding, party, conference, retreat - it has a unique energy and a very versatile setting. We had dinner that evening and the food - all home made - was mouth watering. Very good value for money. We left rejuvenated and yet full of calm.

We stayed here just one night, we booked directly with Margaret (the owner) which allowed us specify the room we wanted to stay in, they have a website with lots of photos. She gave us a really good rate for B&B, she emailed some menu options for dinner on the night of our arrival.

The welcome is fantastic, we arrived down for dinner fairly late, but nothing was too much trouble, the staff were very helpful and friendly and dinner was excellent, reasonably priced wine too.

Our room, more of a suite really (only 50e pp for B&B, 50e each for dinner) was lovely, yes a little faded and worn, but that was exactly as it should be for this kind of place. It felt more like staying in a home than in a business. I couldn't find anyone when I arrived and so followed voices to the kitchen, where I was introduced to all of the staff.

Next morning we slept late (it is extremely peaceful) and were an hour after the last breakfast service. It was noon when we finally went downstairs, to check out and they were still waiting to cook us breakfast. Which was also excellent, all locally sourced produce. And again, despite it being noon on a Sunday nothing was too much trouble for the staff. we sat with huge pots of tea and coffee, full irish breakfast, etc etc..while peacocks sat outside the window...

We didn't get time to explore the walled garden or to take their boat out on the lake, but we will definitely be back..

I travel a lot and rarely take the time to write reviews, but our stay at ashley park house was so good, I simply have to give them all the praise that I can

Room Tip: there are only 5 rooms, select the one you want on their website and phone them directly

Myself and my husband booked into Ashley Park House for two nights. We enjoyed a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our room was furnished beautifully and was extremely comfortable and relaxing. Breakfast was very tasty and cooked to our liking, even nicer than breakfast was the evening meal we ordered. We were entertained one of the evenings by the man of the house Sean, a real character! We look forward to a return visit.

We just celebrated our parents 50th wedding anniversary at Ashley Park, it was just perfect. The setting is magical, and all the grandchildren had great freedom to roam the grounds playing til well after dark. The house itself has a wonderful feeling of old charm. We were greeted to a champagne reception and had a lovely meal with very good service. Afterwards we retired to the drawing room - All the grandchildren had brought their instruments and a great sing-song ensued. What a lovely night! Very warm and welcoming.
