“Our stay at Abbey Court Lodges”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

We wish there were a 'Good' category on Trip Advisor as this was nor average, nor very good, it was just good.

Good standard and probably worth the price for the available space and the modern decor.

A couple of negatives in the lodge itself:
1. The wi-fi doesn't seem to work in the lodges, that is a shame as it is not cheap to hire a lodge and wi-fi should work!
2. A strange electricity feature in our patio, not the most attractive and not the safest for children.

Otherwise plenty of space for 2 families like ours. We stayed at the lodge with 6 children including 2 babies and with the bedrooms on two seperate floors ; it is ideal for 2 families to share. The living area is pretty large downstairs too and is split into the kitchen area/dining area and then the living area on the other side. Doors are very heavy (presumably health and safety) so beware if you have small children as they could easily get their fingers hurt.

Now for the hotel itself. The staff in the bar/restaurant were extremely friendly but the food was a disappointment. Quality would be better than quantity...

If you're thinking of going swimming, do not forget your swimming hats as the hotel will charge you EUR 4 per hat per person i.e. 2 adults and 2 children would cost us EUR 16! That is assuming you have towels as they also charge you for using their towels. The pool is not child friendly as we were asked to leave the jacuzzi because we were there with young children. We also carried our baby to the pool and the automatic jets on the way meant that our poor baby got soaked. So, if you have to bring your baby, carry him on your shoulder or even better do not bring him/her to the pool.

Other useful tip: the shops are a little way away on foot and the nearest convenience shop isn't great so you may want to consider shopping at a supermarket before you get to the lodge.

Very nice staff, had a great little chat while ordering food, quality was great, typically pub/carvery but they added a little element to everything to try make it unique. For an example Shephards pie with a sesame topping, roast flavoured potatoes(herbs and spices), every product had a little extra effort to take the mundane carvery out of it. Would like to eat here some night.

Lovely hotel, large bedroom, nice decor with plenty of wardrobe space. Safe, iron & board. Large clean bathroom and very good quality sleep. We attended a wedding, the champagne reception with the wonderful sounds from the grand piano was lovely. Fresh baked scones, jam & cream with tea/coffee was a treat and all the food was wonderful, the wedding party couldn't say enough good things about the hotels wedding overseer & all the small details were taken care of perfectly. We booked our room seperately & were placed as far away from the music as possible so made for a wonderful night's sleep. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of fresh & cooked food... Overall Impression = Excellent!

We enjoyed a pleasant 5 day stay and what particularly impressed me was the willingness of staff (and speed of action!) to carry out any request. Everywhere was clean and comfortable and the food was good although we only had breakfast there because we were visiting relatives locally. The atmosphere was relaxed and the room very spacious and comfortable.

We booked this hotel to visit friends in the area. From the minute we walked through the door to reception, we realised we were visiting a "Fawlty Towers" establishment. It has the appearance of being very old, the thing that got to us the most was that it was DIRTY. Everywhere was shabby, the furniture in the Lounge was filthy on the arms, likewise the chairs in our room were also filthy. The bath had lumps out of it, the soap rack was falling off the wall, the sockets in the room were not fitted to the wall properly. At breakfast I suddenly realised my cereal bowl had a thick dried rim of congealed fat round it and to cap it all, as my husband was finishing his cooked breakfast, the plate revealed many cracks across it (a real health hazard). We could not wait to leave the place, thankfully it was only 2 nights, but they won't see us again, and I certainly could not recommend it to any other Trip Advisor readers.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the road, they are quiet but unfortunately the walls are paper-thin so you w...

We knew when we crossed the floor to the rectionist at her desk that this was going to be tricky. No she did not have a king size bed No she could not upgrade No she did not know if the taxi service was available. The room was fine if a little date but the dead still air made me suspect that the room had not been used for some time. The bed was a small double and seemed to be in a place were a larger bed once had been. The breakfast was unremarkable except for the noise of the children running around under no control by parents grand parents or staff. But the big event was the bed it was very hard prison standard I am sure .I will not be returning

Room Tip: Have a look at your room and try your bed before booking in

On arrival we were greeted with a smile and warm welcome.
Stayed just the one night and the room is showing its age a bit but was very good.
The breakfast was good but there was a bus load having breakfast also so a lot of the food was gone or had been cooked earlier and dried out.
Would suggest to friends to stay here as overall it is good value for money and cosy
