“Great Value Hotel in Stunning Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

Completely unexpected visit to Sligo when my wife took ill and had to be admitted to Sligo hospital, resulting in me booking in for a couple of nights over the weekend.

This hotel is a bit of a grand old lady, in some ways showing its' age - some of the furniture in the older part of the hotel are best described as functional, certainly not upmarket - but look at what they charge! Couldn't believe I could stay in such a beautiful area for a mere €55 a night.

For those who don't know the area - it is beautiful. Golf course, putting green and tennis court right outside with glorious beaches beyond. The village has a few pubs / restaurants / shops and under-estimated Sligo is only 7km away. The surf beaches of Strandhill are about 20 mins away and there is sea angling (boat & shore) and fresh water angling in abundance. The area is very safe for walking or cycling and there are riding stables nearby too. This is definitely one of Ireland's hidden gems.

Back to the hotel - it is a combination of old and new with a modern extension adjoining the established building giving the best of both worlds. I stayed in both parts - first night in the 'old' building, second night transferring to the new part. The 'old' room was fine if quite dated. Bed was comfortable, TV was modern flat screen and bathroom did everything you would expect. The 'new' room was better - more modern and spacious. Mine actually had a double and two singles so accommodation to suit most family sizes.

The hotel has a pool and spa and there are lovely lounges beside open fires and wonderful views to while away an hour or two with a book or the papers. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the chef helped out with my wife's request for an alternative to hospital food.

All things considered, this is a really good option. Not ultra modern or with cutting edge facilities, but neither does it charge at that level so looking at what you get for your money this is hard to beat.

I look forward to going back - just hope the circumstances are different.

Room Tip: Ask for new part of hotel.

I have stayed in this hotel on lots of occasions, mostly on my own (single room). I have always found the staff very friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere relaxed, the food good and the views fantastic. It certainly isn't the most up to date hotel in the country and could really benefit from a lick of paint, but the rooms are clean and warm and I think their prices are excellent considering the fantastic location. Single room mid week is only €45 B&B. That includes full use of the leisure facilities and pool. I have paid more than €50 in some B&Bs. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting in front of one of the open fires with a cup of coffee and a good book, waking up in the morning, opening the curtains to one of the best views in Ireland. This hotel is good value for money. Just go and enjoy all the good points, ignore the old furniture and chipped paintwork, and chill out!

Just back from a wonderfully relaxing weekend in The Yeats hotel. The hotel offers fantastic sea views from the bedrooms. The staff where really friendly from the start of our stay until final check out. The dining room is very grand, perfect for a romantic dinner, the food and service where excellent. Then relax on the huge sofas beside the fire. We also ventured for the seaweed baths in the hotel spa on the 3rd floor, and where not disappointed, really relaxing, a great way to get heat into the body after the brisk walk from the nearby beach. We will be back really soon.

Room Tip: We visited Harry's bar, just around the corner from the hotel. Really friendly bar, with great s...

Great location matched by the food and all but one member of staff .
We had a meal in the bar on Sat eve and sad to say the young lady who served us was short of manners .This hotel is well worth a visit .

My husband & myself were booked into Radisson in Sligo for our 1st wedding anniversary in Feb only to be told that they had no room for us and they had booked us into another hotel down the road. Having been very disappointed and angry over the Radisson we found the new hotel The Yeats Country Hotel and we loved it.
Upon arrival the receptionists were extremely lovely & friendly, told us if we needed anything to just ask. The hotel is situated in Rosses Point about 5 min walk from the beach & about 10 min drive to town.
The hotel is so homely, has open fire places which were lighting :-) the bar served gorgeous food and breakfast in the morning was delicious. The hotel also has swimming pool, gym, sauna & jacuzzi. The bedrooms were lovely and clean, our room had view over the ocean :-)
My husband & myself had no problems with the hotel we loved it and would stay again.
Thanks to Valerie and Eileen on reception and Karen in the bar for making our "surprise" stay with you a great one.

The staff in general are very pleasant. I had "catch of the day" for lunch, frozen over cooked battered cod, for 14 euro. I felt ill straight away ended up violently ill. When I complained, restaurant manager told there was nothing wrong in the kitchen. Thankfully the hotel manager knew something about customer service, he apologized, offer to get me a doctor and asked if there was anything he could do and yes he apologized! Hotel is good value, but food is very poor, it obvious the cook ain't interested or has reached the limit of their capacity.

Nice hotel in a lovely location. Room we had was large and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. The spa is nicely done and very relaxing. Breakfast was good and the service efficient. The only point that was in the negative was dinner. The food was fine on the main course but the starter and dessert were like being back in a school canteen, it is very rare to see only apple pie and custard, ice cream and trifle on the menu in a 4 star hotel. The selection as I say was very basic and it arrived at the table with a minute of ordering so dessert arrived as the main course was being taken away, not conducive to a pleasant evening. But that was the only negative and otherwise our stay was excellent, so if you go B&B or don' mind the desserts then you will have a lovely time.
