I booked a suite for one night, i was travelling for business purposes. The suite was very tastefully furnished but the facilities were poor, only irish channels on the TV and the hydroptherapy bath didnt work! The pressure in the shower was poor. This place is a restaurant with rooms above, This was my first visit but nobody explained to me how things worked so i felt a bit out of place, not knowing where to sit for dinner or where to go for breakfast. The information book in the room told me nothing about the venue itself only general information. I went down for Sunday lunch and was given a table at the back of the dining room. Some of the staff dont even look at you, they just keep their head down and furiously cleared tables! no one asked if id like a drink. It was a while before anyone took my order. When the food arrived it was very average, prawn cocktail was those tiny aneamic shrimp with marie rose sauce and some salad leaves, very average. I ordered lamb for mains. The lamb was overcooked and dry but still tender, veg was good, portion size was huge, very carvery imo. Breakfast next morning was ok, menu offered fish which was good. Overall i felt like an outsider looking in. Would recommend on the basis of the room alone if you bring some DVD's and they fix the bath

Room Tip: ask for a suite, worth the extra few bob

Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for your honest and detailed review.

Since receiving your review, we have made a number of changes to our accommodation, our service and our food in the restaurant.

In relation to our TV channels, we now have a digital service through saorview and we have a number of excellent Irish channels and radio stations which are now available on the TVs in all the rooms.

The hydrotherapy bath in the Suite has been fixed and the shower pressure has also been checked.

Our sincere apologies for not being more informative as regards our restaurant and breakfast facilities. Our staff training in reception has since improved and we are constantly updating our procedures to ensure guests are accurately informed about all of our facilities and local attractions.

Our guest information books have also been given a complete makeover - they are now packed full of information as regards our facilities, the history of our Townhouse and local tourist attractions. Your review was very helpful in this area.

The Sunday lunch menu has also been changed significantly in the last few months. We have taken on board a number of your suggestions with regards to the food and we have made the necessary changes. Our food portions and presentation of dishes have been considerably updated and we hope that you will return to try our new Sunday lunch menu which includes the best of local and seasonal produce.

As regards the service from the waiting staff, we have since employed a restaurant manager who has significantly developed the training given to staff and has made huge improvements in service levels in our restaurant and cafe.

We are delighted that you liked your breakfast and your room.

We hope that if you return to stay with us, you will be pleasantly surprised at the changes we have made and we thank you once again for your review which was very helpful.

All the best,

Eamonn Gleeson

Stayed here on our tour of Ireland. The service was excellent. We ate in the restaurant twice during our visit and the food was delicious. The room was spacious and very clean. We had an excellent view of the square. The hotel is in the heart of town with plenty of free parking in the back. The only negative is that we couldn't stay longer.

My husband, grandson and I had the pleasure of staying in Roscommon at end of August. We stayed in Gleesons self catering luxury appartment for 5 days followed by a 2 night stay at the townhouse ( why it is called a townhouse I don't know as we thought it was far better than lots of so called 4star hotels).
To begin, the appartment was great - relaxing - beautiful views - everything that anyone could ever want. Lovely friendly area and neighbours ( Hello Peter ). The ONLY thing that could improve visitors stay - maybe a computer with WIFI. However - we become too attached to the computers so maybe it was not such a bad thing
After our 5 great lazy days, we drove into Roscommon town square again, to book into Gleesons- we couldn't wait. Our expections were met and more. We were given a luxury room and bathroom - right at the front of the hotel overlooking the square - and despite it's location it was peaceful. Brilliant owners The Gleeson family and their staff. Outstanding service and quality food. Can't wait to visit again - wish we were there. I could keep writing all day but the more I remember back the more I want to go back right now! Thank-you to all for treating us so well. See you soon we hope.

We stayed one night in executive suite, which was resonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was adequate and we were delighted with free scones, tea and coffee after our long drive. The food for the family function was very good, breakfast also good.

Having heard good things about Glessons we finally traveled to Roscommon for the day to have lunch there and check out the cafe - nice atmosphere there. The menu read relatively impressive and we were excited to experience some nice food.

We were given menus but no one came to take our orders and I had to go up to the deli and stop a waitress as she went back into the kitchen.

We ordered a steak sandwich which said it came with juicy strips of sirloin. It came as one lump of tough overdone steak. The goats cheese crumble was poor, e.g. it had bits of unappetizing onion. Describing it later i said it was like something I might make myself on the first try of a recipe. The kids menu read well. We ordered the pasta which the menu said came with freshly grated cheese, it didn't, we had to ask for it. We had the distinct impression that the chef who wrote the menu was not there.

They were slow to clear our done plates, we ended up stacking our plates at the side to encourage someone to come. We let them know about the steak, something was mumbled about letting them know, no offer of coffee or dessert. The Americanos were not great and more watery than they should have been. I had to go and find someone to pay - they seemed under staffed.

We did not stay here but tried to use their restaurant. We did not get past the first hurdle, though, cos when we asked for the vegetarian menu, we were offered sea bass. Ho Hum.

It looked nice inside, though.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your review.

First of all, apologies for my late reply to your review of our restaurant.

However, I did not wish to reply without having taken affirmative action on training issues with our staff. This action has now been taken and our restaurant staff have all been trained to an acceptable level to know that fish is not included on the vegetarian menu.

Our sincere apologies again and we do hope that you give us another chance as we have many excellent organic, vegetarian options on our menu.
