Its alive and kicking at Gleesons.! We stayed at the wonderful apartment in Lanesboro which has everyting you need and has wonderful views over Lough Ree and even when the weather was inclement it has truly magical views. We checked in at the Townhouse in Roscommon and were greeted by Eammon who proceeded to lead us to the cafe where we were offered coffee and wonderful fresh scones,Mary then joined us and they then gave us a briefing as to the attractions in the area.We were given Eamons mobile in case we had any problems at the apartment (which we didnt).
We ate at the Townhouse on three occsions and found the food wonderful and the service excellent...oh and I nearly forgot Mary packed us up with fresh soda breads on checking out thats what we can hospitality. The Gleeseons have to be the friendliest hosts
we have encountered and truly deserve the good reviews they get..ps they like pets here too.
We did not look at the hotel rooms but judging by the standard of the apartment then we would have no hesitation staying there .We will be returning without a doubt

Room Tip: Speak with Eamonn or Mary or any of their staff

We stayed in Gleesons Townhouse in Roscommon last night. It has a great location within a 5 minute stroll to the town centre. It was just like a home away from home with lovely atmosphere and an olde worlde ambience that is so hard to find nowadays. Its a family run business and the owners believe in taking a hands on approach, Despite being extremely busy, we were shown the finest hospitality, had a beautiful breakfast from very competent staff in a well laid out restaurant. The thing is, its so hard to find little gems like this nowadays and certainly any of the bigger or more well known hotels lack this degree of good old fashioned hospitality. We were given a suite overlooking the town centre at no extra charge , the owners allowed us to stay in the room til 4pm the next day while our friends were at the Mayo / Roscommon match so we didnt have to face the weather outside. On speaking to the owner Eamonn, he even brought myself and my other half down to the shop that they run, despite the fact that it was closed to give us a look at the local produce and speciality and artisan food that they stock as this is something my other half would be interested in. This in itself was an experience. He knows his little business inside out and has such an interest in the hospitality aspect of the hotel - In short, this quaint establishment is one not to be missed if you are staying in Roscommon for a while or just passing through. We for definate will be back...

Had a meeting here during the week and after a fine, if tepid, gls of white wine decided to stay for something to eat. The unremarkable looking dining area was busy, granted. Not packed out but busy and there were two waitresses and a lady who I'm guessing was the manager/owner. To say her manner was abrupt is being kind. I was told to 'sit over there' and was briskly pointed to a waiting area. For more than twenty minutes I sat. Not once did someone come near me, to explain they wouldn't be long or that they were sorry for the delay. After twenty minutes the owner/manager bellowed at me while passing, 'we haven't forgotten about you.' Fine. I waited for another while. Finally I heard the lady bellow again to the waitresses as she walked into the kitchen. 'Throw that girl on table 3.' I decided to leave. As I was settling for the wine with the man on reception she bellowed again across the restaurant. 'Oh she just couldn't wait. There's only so much we can do.' The delay was never the problem. It was the rudeness I couldn't tolerate. Strangest moment was the reception guy not asking why I was leaving and recommending a 'little Italian half way down the street.' Bizarre.

This is a well run but older property right off the main square, very good for the price. Roscommon doesn't have much going for it in terms of touring attractions, but this is a good choice if you are using the town as an overnight stop from one place to another. Rooms are tidy but small and unmemorable. Very quiet both in evening and morning. Restaurant was very very good, for both dinner and breakfast. You should also check out their separate gourmet foods shop, a few doors up from the hotel as you head away from the square.

This is the second time that our choir has stayed in Gleeson's Townhouse & Restaurant for the weekend and both times we were treated as part of the family. The owners, Mary & Eamonn Gleeson are truely genuine people and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were clean & very comfortable and the food was magnificent! We are all already looking forward to our next trip to Roscommon and will definitely be staying in Gleeson's.

We stayed one night here en route to the west coast of Ireland and wished we'd stayed longer. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Our room was the suite; the bed was confortable, the living room was tastefully decorated and despite overlooking the main street of Roscommon, it was quiet and peaceful. We had a complimentary cream tea when we arrived, which was served in the little tea room. There was a display case of delicious looking cakes, but we managed to resist them. The Tea Room is open to the public, I think. it was pretty full when we were there. There's a bar with a roaring log fire, and a restaurant which although not gourmet cooking, serves hearty scrummy food at dinner and breakfast. The landlord is a lovely chap and came round the restaurant for a chat with lots of the diners. A couple of doors down, there's a Gleeson's delicatessen which is just as enticing if a bit pricey. Highly recommended all round.

Room Tip: Car park's very small . Get there early.

I wanted to treat my mother and sister so after reading loads of reviews I booked Gleesons. The room was very small for 3 people and very dusty. We went for our evening meal to the restaurant. The menu was very basic, had to double check we got the right a la carte menu because the food was the same as you would serve in a cafe. The food was ok and the atmospher was very rushed...nothing like I expected. On a good point we met the manager later that day and he was very frendly. All in all it was ok.
