“The Perfect Little Getaway”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

We stayed here in February 2014 for a little weekend getaway and it was the perfect choice. The hotel itself is beautiful both inside and out especially for those who like gorgeous vintage decor. Our room was very spacious and had everything we could need. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly. The food in the hotel was absolutely superb and the restaurant was always busy which was a good sign! The leisure centre in the hotel was a great added bonus and everything about the hotel and its staff was just pure class and quality. I cannot recommend this hotel enough to anyone looking for that wee getaway as i thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Abbey Hotel and will definitely be returning in the near future!

We just stayed on a 2 night visit to Abbey Hotel in Roscommon town. The hotel is warm and welcoming. The staff were very attentive. We has a family room with double and interconnected beds for children. We loved the space of the room. At night we enjoyed a nice drink in the comfy secluded couches near the bar. Morning breakfast was the best in a long time at a 4 star. Every morsel was tasty and fresh. The chef kindly cooked pancakes for the boys as a special order. Thank you to all for a wonderful break. We will have to make a reason to return. ... and definitely will.

Room Tip: leisure centre is definitely worth a visit.

i am just back from a one night stay (Groupon deal) with my granddaughter. We absolutely loved this hotel. The room was really spacious, and spotless, as was the bathroom. The weather was miserable while we were there so we spent a lot of time in the pool/spa which was just fantastic. the staff just couldn't do enough for us, in fact, they seemed to know what we wanted before we asked for it - eg. offering my granddaughter a charger for her phone and wifi info as soon as she walked in. Really nice touches. We didn't eat in the restaurant because we weren't so hungry but had drinks and nightcaps in the bar, and there was a really nice buzz about the place. I loved the decor and the halls had some of the nicest art work and antique furniture I've ever seen - and remnants of the old castle still exist. I just loved all that. Breakfast could have been a bit fresher (all pre-cooked in heated containers) but there was a reasonable choice. Late checkout was also appreciated. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would consider going back, even though there wasn't a lot to do in Roscommon. Still, the long drive down (4 hours) was really worth it. Fantastic.

Room Tip: Apparently the newer part of the hotel has larger rooms. We stayed in room 93, at the very end of t...

We booked this hotel on the advice of trip advisor reviews and have to express our thanks for the help uncovering a blissful gem. Roscommon itself is a small wee town and not super piteresque, but when you drive under the stone arch onto Abbey grounds you are transported. The staff were so great from giving us directions when we lost our way on the trip down right through to checkout and everything in between. Our room was lovely, like staying in dowton abbey, and the bar is so cosy and warm, the barstaff very accomadating. Breakfast thrown in was lovely too plenty of selection. We made much use of the gym and pool/jacuzzi/steam room. The gym is very basic but again the staff are so lovely and the regular patrons very accomadating! the pool was definatley the highlight, sitting in the jacuzzi with the light from the window at your back you have a view of the pool that makes you think of greek baths. Everything was very clean as well, we were here to relax and we absolutley could, they even have sky sports in the rooms! we are going to make it a habit of coming annually.

Room Tip: I see on a few comments about whirring noises, our aircon was a bit rattly but you can switch it off...

Just back from a one-night Groupon voucher night. Hotel was everything we wanted. Comfortable room, great bar food and very friendly staff. Close to Strokestown House which was our reason for visit. The bed was a bit small as it was a standard double but mattress and pillows were good. Toilet roll holder was a disaster as difficult to use. There was a constant whirr from something, we couldn't make out what was making the sound. These niggles didn't spoil our enjoyment of this really nice hotel. Would definitely return but would ask if there was a room with a bigger bed. Ate delicious fish and chips in extremely cosy, comfortable bar. Complimentary bottle of Perry that came with the deal was delicious.

Room Tip: Ask for big bed.

We stayed here in November for one night...we stay here maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I love it. So so relaxing the staff r so friendly and would help you with anything....there was a big dinner dance on that night too and the staff where more than able to cope had a lovely dinner in the bar that night it was 1st class. Breakfast was yum so much to choose from. The room we had was fine I like to stay up the other end of hotel but this time we where down by the dining room but it was fine big enough and comfy. Cannot wait to return again. Roll on my next visit.

We had a lovely stay in the Abbey Hotel. the beautiful drive in and stone walls set the scene for the hotel which feels serene. Entering the hotel we were welcomed at Reception by smiling, welcoming, friendly staff. Our Room was spacious, comfortable and warm! The bathroom was equally spacious with hot water available all through the day. There was a Wedding in the Hotel the same day so you would expect noise late at night and the restaurant to suffer through reduced staff, not at all ! There were so many staff we never had to wait on anything and they were all extrememly helpful and nice! Apart from the Wedding there was a good buzz of other people in the Hotel, so there was a lovely atmosphere in both the bar and the restaurant. The presentation of the food was second to none and the food itself was absolutely gorgeous ! We would have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel and Restaurant to anyone and we will certainly be returning !
