We had a 2 night stay and loved this hotel. There is a lovely ambience to the place. I also enjoyed the best burger i have ever had from the bar food menu, delicious. Service was good. Pool and jacuzzi great, only down side was that kids pool was very deep, 1 meter which is very deep for a 4 year old. I want to leave this review on a good note as this is how we felt upon leaving. Will definately return.

Stayed at this hotel for a three night family break. Got a parking space (free) only a few yards from the Hotel Entrance. Recieved a warm wellcome from the Hotel Staff. Asked for a large quiet family room with a view, and got same. The room was warm, spacious and clean.
Included A.C, T.V, Safe, Hairdryer, tea/coffee e.t.c. plus a proper bed for each child, rather than the "pull-out" version.Bathroom was also spacious and clean. We even had to open the window to let the heat out of the room. The domestic staff operated silently each morning along the corridor. The buffet Breakfast was good. It finished at ten. Noticed a few late risers arriving after clear-up each morning, all of whom were still served a full breakfast. The kids enjoyed a few hours in the clean and well staffed swimming pool each morning, whilst we sipped coffee and read the provided daily papers in the comfortable hotel lounge. Had lunch in the hotel each day. Food was fresh, well cooked and presented, and portions large. The Hotel Manager was in regular attendance, and enquired with all guests, if all was ok. The hotel had a bit of character about it, which is not to be found in the "boom era" hotels built over the last decade or so. Paid180 euors in total for the three nights. This worked out at 15 euros per person, per night including breakfast and use of the lesure facilities. Looking forward to returning at easter.

I'm afraid I cannot recommend this hotel, the hotel itself is adequate but certainly not deserving of its 4 star status. The breakfast was poor and finishes at 10am on the weekends with less and less food available the closer you get to 10am.

There is a large problem with this hotel with the fact that there is no night porter to allow access to the hotel during the night, we had to wait 40 minutes outside the hotel before the security guard opened the door to let us in.

Had heard mixed reviews about the Abbey but I have to say I was delighted with my visit. the food in the restaurant was great, one of the best steaks I've had in a while. Would certainly recommend if in the area!

Staff are ignorant and extremely rude, room was FREEZING, no hot water, no breakfast due to being SLIGHTLY after 10am on a Sunday, very poor food. I would rather stay in a dog house next time. Need I say more?

We acknowledge and respect constructive feedback from customers. Points raised are dealt with through standards appraisals and retraining. In reference to the above review may we point out that issues relating to "cold rooms" and hot water can be dealt with satisfactorily by our staff if brought to our attention in time. "Cold rooms" are most easily explained by a radiator having been turned off, perhaps by a prevous occupant of the bedroom. Breakfast service while finishing at 10am will continue at weekends until 10.30am. No residents are refused breakfast, in fact, we believe that in the above instance the reviewer was served breakfast at 10.55 albeit in the lounge. Perhaps if the reviewer would like to conatct me I would be happy to clarify the matter.
In general while we do not answer reviews on this service all reviews are monitered and opinions expressed are respected.
We continue to assure all our customers of our best attemtion at all times.

This hotel was the only hotel we stayed at in Ireland that lacked service, we booked a table for dinner with the booking, no reservation when we got there. We booked again on check in and when we got to there we were waiting 10 mins. before anyone showed up then told to wait while she got somebody. when the girl came.no booking, the service all through the meal was poor and at breakfast all the hot food trays where empty. They put us in an extention wing which was like an office, I cannot find anything good to say about this hotel and warn you to give it a wide berth. This was supposed to be the highlight of our week in Ireland but it was the only bad hotel we stayed in, what a shame

We enjoyed a mostly relaxing stay with our friends and children on the 30-31st of October, apart however for our dinning experience. It was not so much the issue of ordering a steak rare and it arriving over done, nor the 10 minutes afterwards to finally flag down a member of staff to correct the issue (discretely of course), nor the issue of having the said item removed from the bill, indeed the service in general was not a problem. The main problem came when we requested a third bottle of the same wine between the four of us to bring into the lounge to enjoy after dessert. It arrived (eventually) and was opened and tasted - by all four of us and we all concluded that it was indeed corked. Four adults - same conclusion. We requested a different bottle perhaps from a different case. The waiter nodded and instead of returning with our request. We were met with the Hotel manager who informs us rather rudely that it's not corked, it is fine, and he will not open another bottle of wine, we can drink that one. We all just looked at this guy in true amazement - and there was no persuading him, even when I pointed out that as a South African wine, with a cork - it is quite common - it is a long distance to travel, that we'd all just had the wine over dinner and this bottle tasted distinctly sour by comparison. But there was no persuading him. Even when he couldn't give me a good answer as to what corked actually meant! So we ordered a short instead and moved off to our rooms feeling decidedly that our experience was nothing short of an ignorant farce. It didn't end there, when I approached him the following morning after breakfast to seek an apology (perhaps he'd had a few?!) he proceeded to defend himself and raised his voice to me in front of my 4 and 5 year old children!!!!

The hotel receptionist was most apologetic upon check out the following morning and from that gesture, I guess this proprietor is possibly the wrong peg in the wrong hole career wise. I would not recommend this experience to anyone seeking respite!

Family rooms are dated, poor quality, adequate size. Rest of the hotel staff seemed lovely.

I have written to the Irish hotels federation about this conduct and urge others to do similar when they encounter this level of wrath!
