This was a very enjoyable experience, fascinating step back in time, and was guided through the mine by an ex miner who really knew his stuff and was able to answer every question, and he was an absolute gentleman, but unfortunately the numbers in tour were too large which made it difficult to see some stuff and sometimes to hear what the guide was saying, but he was aware of this and tried hard to make sure everyone saw and heard everything, but it was difficult on him, but overall it was an enjoyable experience and very interesting.

Five of us - two adults and three teenagers did the tour on Tuesday last. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and found it fascinating. Our tour guide was brilliant and because he was an ex-miner himself he could explain in detail the workings of the mine and answer any questions we put to him. The entry cost of the tour was very reasonable and overall the visit was very worthwhile and enjoyable. We'll be spreading the word in Wexford to take a trip to the Arigna Mining Experience.

This was a fascinating day out and made more interesting by having someone who had worked there for 15 years as our guide. It was an excellent experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I would definitely go back there next time I was in that part of Ireland and, in fact, the Arigna Experience would encourage me to return. A bonus was the lovely coffee shop with a good selection of hot & cold snacks. The Gift Shop was quite small but had a good range of gifts & books. My husband has walking difficulties but was able to manage the tour. It was quite cold, and also there was water dripping down at some points so wear something warm, but you are reminded of this when buying tickets. It was different from any other trip I've been on and the views outside were beautiful. I think it would also be an excellent trip for school children as the ex-miner who was leading our tour kept the children in the group involved. I have no reservations in giving the Arigna Mining Experience 5 stars and I have been telling everyone about it!

Brought a group of 15 cub scouts along for a tour of the arigna mines as part of our annual camp in Lough Key. A very interesting tour which was set apart from the rest by the guide who was a an ex miner from the arigna mine itself. Tough before the trip I was a little unsure how much a group of 10 year old children would be interested in the history of coal mining in Ireland, once the tour started the cubs hung on to every word the guide said and had an absolutely great time, they were talking about it non stop for the rest of the day. The big difference for me between arigna and other similar tours was that the guide gave you his story of the mines, of how the equipment worked, of the people he knew who suffered injuries or lost their lives. It was a real first hand account rather than a script that was learned off. In the visitor centre above ground the reception staff were friendly and helpful and seemed to be enjoying their job. After the tour we had lunch outside on the picnic benches with a spectacular view of lough allen all with an admission price under €10.

Words sometimes cant express the experience of a place. Like when your insides churn with sadness as the awful working conditions are on display for the men who worked in this mine for years, on their stomach, shovelling coal for so many hours every day. A dark, damp, dusty life- which they signed up to at the age of between 14-16. What could these young lads know of the exchange they made for the joy of life and the seasons, for health- against the bleak black darkness of the mines, and the risks they ran every day and the long term risks of poor health. We have come a long way. The mine is so close to the bone of reality- its a piece of living history and an experience not to be missed. Great coffee shop, great videos and a really good value souvenier shop. Will certainly return to this lovely scenic area with so much history
