My wife and I stumbled across this hotel while trying to find Newgrange (the GPS was utterly confused - another story) on our last day on our trip in Ireland.
We were dying for a loo and lunch stop (in that order) and walked in to tyhe Conyngham Arms Hotel in Slane. (Slane is the 'heritage capital of Ireland' - so they say). I was blown away! The hotel has JUST been opened after a 3 year closure and renovation.
We ordered a simple lunch, but wished we had been able to see and experience more of this delightful hotel. Everything was new, including the staff, computers and cash registers etc.
Sadly we didn't have time to check out the rooms :-(
The food was excellent as was the service. Despite minor logistics problems of the first week of operations, I see that this hotel would be a MUST DO stopover for anyone going from Dublin to Northern Ireland by car.
