“Great cottages, rural location & dog friendly!”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

My partner and I wanted a short weekend break to relax, however we also wanted to take our dog with us (a Newfoundland). After finding out about the decoy cottages my partner booked the Tack room for the weekend of May 10th.

After an uneventful trip down from Belfast - we found the cottages without issue and settled into our lovely spacious room with no problems.

Over the course of the weekend we took advantage of the facilities in the Den (Pool table/Air hockey table & DVD's). We also took some nearby walks with our dog.

Some of the walks we took:
Balrath woods (local woods, close to cottages, walk was reasonably sheltered amongst the trees),
Hill of Tara: Amazing views from this historically significant site. Very windy and exposed, essentially a grassy hill rather than a walking path, it offered a great panoramic view of Meath and is well worth a trip.
Navan/Slane footpath/Ramparts: Nice walk alongside the Boyne/old canal - we walked some of this, starting in Navan. A nice walk, we didn't walk the whole route as we didn't want our dog to disturb some of the very nearby cattle.
Trim Castle: Amazing castle with a nice walk alongside the river, variety of ruins and sites to walk around, a nice walk.
Battle of the Boyne site: Impressive location, mixture of footpath/road/grass for the walks, so not suitable for all weathers, but the center itself was impressive, well kept and a decent sized picnic area that we availed of.

We also visited the nearby Bellinter House Hotel for Saturday dinner, the hotel is in a lovely location nearby the cottages, with a long, impressive drive.

Overall we had a very good weekend at the cottages, would recommend it and will be considering returning in the future.

As a couple in our 60's and travelled extensively we had never visited Ireland or even rented a cottage before. What a delight we found. The houses were arranged around a large courtyard, very quiet and private. We stayed in the Hen House which was the perfect size for us,spacious, absolutely everything was provided, all top quality and immaculately clean and beautifully presented. The large comfy sofas and super kingsize bed made it feel just like home. It was cold and windy outside but we were warm and cosy with the underfloor heating, did not even light the wood burning stove. The location was perfect, in the beautiful Irish countryside but within short distance there was Navan with local shops and a Tesco. Explored all the small towns and villages nearby and some of the tourist sites. Visited Dublin which was amazing and under an hour away by bus and can also by done by park and train ride into the city. We will definitely be returning to see more of Ireland thanks to the friendliness of the owners of Decoy Cottages and all the Irish people we met. .

There were 24 of us in 5 cottages. It could not have been more perfect. When we arrived each cottage had eggs & bread waiting for us. Besides being a beautiful structure with manicured grounds, it was very safe for the 4 younger children to play. They enjoyed the 2 dogs, the play ground and and the trampoline. It is also gated. Each cottage was spacious, clean & the beds were comfy. During the day everyone had their own agenda. There was so much to see. County Meath is loaded with history and interesting places to visit. Everyone gathered at my cottage in the evenings. We ate, drank and talked of our days experiences. The children ate in the living room & played games that were provided or watched TV.

Paula, the owner, was always accommodating. She prepared a delicious dinner for my Grandson's rehearsal dinner which was held in her family room.

I have already highly recommended Decoy Cottages to a friend that will be traveling to Ireland.
I told them they will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: They were all great!!

Had a hen for a two day trip out to Decoy Cottages. The beds are fantastic!! The service is great and Paula who runs it, is lovely. They helped us with booking our mini bus and left us eggs, brown bread and organic milk for breakfast. We would go back again.

We were in Navan for a family vacation/wedding and stayed at Decoy Cottages. It was a pleasant surprise to find this wonderful place. Our entire family stayed there so it was a great place to gather in the evenings for dinner. The cottages are spacious, clean, quiet and very affordable. It was easy getting a cab and the town isn't that far away. Plus there are restaurants that deliver out there. There is a nice gym, spa and great area to take walks. Thanks for a lovely stay.

We went with a family group of 27 for a get together. The quality of the accommodation was superb, with very comfortable bedrooms and excellent bathrooms and very spacious kitchens. The properties we had were clean and well equipped. The owners were pleasant and helpful and the cottages are perfect for large groups. There is also a well equipped mini gym and games room. The location is rural and pleasant and within easy reach of Newgrange.

I would recommend the properties absolutely. My only negative point is that we did run out of hot water for several hours on one of the days, but this was quickly acted upon when told.

We had a family (well 7 families in total) gathering here last weekend. We had four of the cottages and used the largest one for communal dining at night. The cottages are well speced and well equipped and it is easy to pop in from one to the other or cook in one and eat in another. There is lots to do around and its easy to get to from Dublin or the Airport as its only a few miles from the Motorway
