We stayed at Newport House in May 2006 having been there two years previously. It has the refined elegance that many places in Ireland aspire to and never achieve. The service is personal and pleasant. The surroundings are extremely refined. You can imagine what Yeats felt like staying in Lissadell House further up the coast back in the 1930's.
DInner is a fabulous experience, the food is so fresh and tasty. The wine list makes you want to drink for a week. Breakfast is probably the best bit - porridge is beautiful and the fresh eggs and sausages are divine.
Newport house is removed enough from Westport to allow you to enjoy the peace but still close enough to let you see all the sights around clew bay.
