Stayed here end of November when owners Lyn and her husband were enjoying a holiday themselves overseas. They had Siobhan and her husband looking after the place for them.
When Lyn took our booking she offered to drive us into nearby Carlingford (a lovely and lively spot) in the evening if we liked. When we arrived the caretakers made the same offer. Our timetable sadly prevented taking it up.
A request for an early breakfast at 0715 on a Sunday morning was willingly met, and it turned out some other guests had the same early start so about 7 of us were down in the conservatory for and early full Irish breakfast. The room was a little cool as the heat had not been on for long, but we were glad to get a cooked breakfast so early.
Breakfast: choice of cereals, orange juice tea or coffee. No hot chocolate but hot milk was provided. Irish breakfast consisted of one fried egg, 2 small pork sausages, half a tomato, two pieces of bacon and a small slice of black pudding. Not as big as you might get some places, but fine, nicely cooked.
Room: Our twin room was fairly spacious with a small flat-screen TV with digital TV. Had RTE channels (the Irish broadcaster) plus BBC 1,2,3,4, News & Parliament. No Ulster TV or Channel 4. Everything was spotlessly clean. Beds very comfortable. Free, unlocked, WiFi in room was much appreciated.Roof curled ominously over beds. Thankfully a padded cover on the edge means if you did hit it you wouldn't do lasting damage. (Photo attached.) Room 6 view over back towards mountains - lovely rural setting.
Bathroom: Shower was an electric model with some form of built-in pump. A bit noisy in operation it did not deliver a great volume of water but temperature stayed constant. Bathroom never warmed due to radiator being off and when turned on was 3/4 full of air. Forgot to mention at checkout so they could bleed it. (Room 6).
Checkout: The staff were flexible about check-out time which was helpful due to our movements that Sunday. Credit cards accepted.
Rate: Euro 70 for two people. Not a bad rate, had been quoted Euro 100 nearby in a guest house which was mad.
Would I stay again? Certainly - nice setting, WiFi, lift into town on offer, breakfast fine, value OK.
