MourneView Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #3 of 13 Carlingford B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Stayed here end of November when owners Lyn and her husband were enjoying a holiday themselves overseas. They had Siobhan and her husband looking after the place for them.

When Lyn took our booking she offered to drive us into nearby Carlingford (a lovely and lively spot) in the evening if we liked. When we arrived the caretakers made the same offer. Our timetable sadly prevented taking it up.

A request for an early breakfast at 0715 on a Sunday morning was willingly met, and it turned out some other guests had the same early start so about 7 of us were down in the conservatory for and early full Irish breakfast. The room was a little cool as the heat had not been on for long, but we were glad to get a cooked breakfast so early.

Breakfast: choice of cereals, orange juice tea or coffee. No hot chocolate but hot milk was provided. Irish breakfast consisted of one fried egg, 2 small pork sausages, half a tomato, two pieces of bacon and a small slice of black pudding. Not as big as you might get some places, but fine, nicely cooked.

Room: Our twin room was fairly spacious with a small flat-screen TV with digital TV. Had RTE channels (the Irish broadcaster) plus BBC 1,2,3,4, News & Parliament. No Ulster TV or Channel 4. Everything was spotlessly clean. Beds very comfortable. Free, unlocked, WiFi in room was much appreciated.Roof curled ominously over beds. Thankfully a padded cover on the edge means if you did hit it you wouldn't do lasting damage. (Photo attached.) Room 6 view over back towards mountains - lovely rural setting.

Bathroom: Shower was an electric model with some form of built-in pump. A bit noisy in operation it did not deliver a great volume of water but temperature stayed constant. Bathroom never warmed due to radiator being off and when turned on was 3/4 full of air. Forgot to mention at checkout so they could bleed it. (Room 6).

Checkout: The staff were flexible about check-out time which was helpful due to our movements that Sunday. Credit cards accepted.

Rate: Euro 70 for two people. Not a bad rate, had been quoted Euro 100 nearby in a guest house which was mad.

Would I stay again? Certainly - nice setting, WiFi, lift into town on offer, breakfast fine, value OK.

My wife and i spent 1 quick afternoon and night here at Mourneview and i wish I had just 1 more night to spend here and explore the area.I was heading south between Antim and Dublin and was looking for a stop so the drive to Dublin early the next morning to return our hire, Carlingford was a nice little village located next to a inlet. The B&B was down a county road and was a very a pretty spot with beautiful rose gardens.I had an issue with my work commitment and Lyn let me use her laptop for which i was very greatful. The room was very comfortable, clean and had a few extras ie tea and coffee.A couple of nice pubs in the village and a few interesting little shops plus a nice short walkaround the castle on the waters edge.
Lyn cooks a great breakfast served in a very sunny breakfast room overlooking the farm and sheep. Both and her husband made us feel very welcome as as with most of our B&B stays in Ireland on our departure it was like saying goodbye to old friends. Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: view from the back was great with loverly garden views.

We had a recent stay at Mourneview and were made to feel very welcome by Lyn and her husband, two examples of their hospitality make Mourneview stand out from the rest :- despite it being June when we arrived it was very cold, Lyn put the central heating on. In the evening we wanted to go to Carlingford to eat, Lyn's husband took us down there in the car.
The room we had was very comfortable, bed was large & we had a lovely sleep.
Breakfast was in a conservatory on the back of the house which gave fantastic views of the mountains whilst eating - the food was fresh, hot & tasty.
I would highly recommend Mourneview & look forward to returning one day.

Fantastic! The owner, Lyn and her husband were the geatest of hosts. I asked for an early arrival to get freshened up before going on to a Christening, this was done. The room was great, with every facility. En suite, hairdryer tea and coffee etc. The bed was comfy and most importantly the room was spotless. The breakfast was lovely and taken in the dining room overlooking the mountain and fields. Our room was serviced as one would expect in a good hotel and this is what Mourneview is, a really good hotel! Well done Lyn, we'll see you again and soon we hope.

Fantastic hidden treasure. Spent three nights in this wonderful home. We booked directly with Lynn who was so helpful with suggestions of all the local attractions. Upon arrival Lyn greeted us warmly. Our room was spacious immaculately clean and beautifully decorated and had all the things you need. Tea coffee in room, tv and power shower. We drove down to Carlingford the first night great selection of restaurants and bars really welcoming town. After a great peaceful and comfortable nights sleep we awoke for breakfast. It was a lovely crisp winters morning made all the better by the amazing view from the lovely breakfast room conservatory. Great selection of cereals, fruit bowl and hot breakfast cooked to order was divine every morning. We went for a walk around the surrounding area and down into the town a nice walk away spent the day in Carlingford. Drove out to Dundalk and then to Newry all close by. We highly recommend Lyn and her family for their dedication to their business, it was a wonderful and personal experience which we hope to avail of again and again. Thank you Lyn and Johnnie
