Near the end of twelve day driving trip around Ireland we arrived in Carlingford late on a early May Sunday afternoon without a reservation for any accommodation. Fortunately Shalom B & B had two very pleasant rooms for four travelers. Our host were very welcoming. They gave us detailed information about dining and other local information and answered our many questions about the area. Apart from the rooms a comfortable general lounge area is available for the for the guests. The dining area was pleasant and the breakfast was prepared and served by our hostess in her kitchen. We enjoyed a full hot breakfast but other options were available. The property grounds were well kept and quite attractive. We parked on the property which was fenced and offered a good sense of security. All in all it was a very good stay - and at quite a reasonable price. Our hosts were friendly, hospitable and welcoming.

When we booked the apartment, we were assured that we would be getting the biggest of the self catering rooms, which included a conservatory. As you can imagine we were quite looking forward to this 'luxury'.

Upon arriving we were told that a mistake had been made and that the apartment we had booked wasn’t available. This was quite disappointing. In the apartment we were offered, the shower never really worked. The shower head was either clogged with limestone which seems to be a problem in the area or there was never any pressure. It took a few days for the head to be replaced. In addition to this, several of the upstairs lights in the apartment didn’t work and there was no remote control for the DVD player.

On our final day the landlady arrived at our door to tell us that we had 15 minutes to leave as eircom engineers were coming around to put a phone in. This made us feel a bit rushed into packing up and leaving.

Carlingford is a lovely location, but if we were to book self catering accommodation in this area again, we wouldn’t stay at the Shalom.

The B&B is in a great location about 5 minutes walk from the town centre and right on the water. They have apartments and studio style rooms alongside rooms in the house.

We stayed in a room within the house which was a bit dated and didn't have great water pressure but was clean and comfortable. It was a bit disappointing that the room was the same price as the small self contained apartments which we saw and were nice and modern (but unfortunately booked out).

We did get woken up by the owners speaking with various guests in the echoey hall as our room was located right at the front door but it wasn't a big deal.

Breakfast the next morning was delicious, we got a fry with free range eggs, tea, coffee, juice and cereal - and it seemed that lots of other items couldve been served if we requested. The breakfast room overlooked Carlingford Lough which was absolutely gorgeous.

A great place to stay and I would recommend it!

There is ample parking at the B&B

Myself and my girlfriend stayed just one night (unfortunately), and could not have asked for more. Jackie and Kevin were excellent host's, the room, though basic, was spotless clean and welcoming. Hot water was instant and on demand. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was second to none, and with most of the ingredients soursed locally, as fresh as you can get. The breakfast room provides breathtaking views over Carlingford lough, and with a member of the familty always on hand for whatever little emergency you may have, you will do well to find a b&b that provides you with so much for so little. Book early people, this place is HOT HOT HOT!!!
