“Loved the Four Seasons, above our expectations.”
Reviewed January 3, 2009

Just back from a lovely 2 night stay in Carlingford. Nice small hotel (60 rooms) with Staff friendly, atmosphere good, room great for the price, and Bistro excellent. Facilities are well maintained with easy access to Gym and Pool. Excellent spot to take in either a chill-out couple of days or to work up an appetite by taking in the sites by foot or bike. The village is well stocked with various restaurants to suit all tastes. we ate in PJ O'Hares where again the welcome was good and the food great, do try the Oysters. While in Carlingford we took a spin into Newry (10klm) and availed of the great Stg/Euro rate at the moment and met with again friendly local people. If you are considering going North for a bit of shopping then you should stay in Carlingford and approach Newry on a far less busy road.

We attended a wedding and stayed in the hotel on Friday 5th September 2008, the wedding was great, but the the value of the room was extremely poor, and some staff would need to learn about customer service.

The rooms are extremely overpriced €198 for a double, the room was basic to say the least and the bathroom was in dire need for an overhaul to put in mildly. There is no justification in their pricing policy.

We have stayed in far better hotels for a fraction of the cost.

I really don't know who gave them a 4* classification, something extremely dubious about that one.

Other than that the hotel is situated perfectly in Carlingford for access to the town.

I was desperate to get a short break & Carlingford is only 1hr 30 mins from Belfast so seemed ideal. It is not a four star hotel. It has real potential & could be fabulous but lots of areas need attending to. We were on 2nd floor & so used the stairs instead of the elevator for getting to reception & the leisure facilities. The carpet looks like it hasn't been vacumed all summer & the glass in the fire doors were filthy & grubby. The carpets were grubby & sticky & the whole place smelt of stale food. Our double room was small but adequate with layers of dust on the headboard & behind the tv. The rooms were very noisy at night but we didn't have stag/hen persons staying just families so i'm sure it could be a lot worse. Food just ok as we found our evening meal extremely salty & childs menu just chick or fish nuggets which was very dissapointing. Breakfast was adequate. At check out the reception staff tried to charge us 1st for 2 childs who, when we booked we were told were free & then tried to charge us for a bar bill that we had paid the previous evening. Not very professional. Leisure facilities are good though no where to dry off swim wear & the staff there pleasent & helpful.

I stayed in this hotel for a recent wedding. Cost €180.00 for a double Room.

The hotel generally is clean and staff were helpful. However, I was extremely disappointed with the room - particularly given the price. I would put this hotel in the same bracket as a motor lodge at best. Where they got the 4* rating is beyond me!!

One anecdote from my less than enjoyable stay - Was woken about 9.00am to a couple chatting away outside my room....this went on for about 10+ minutes at which stage I decided to go out and ask them to keep the noise down. To my astonishment when I opened the door - it turned out to be 2 (seniorish) members of staff....

I wont be going back in a hurry...

David

Booked double room for €160 Bed and Breakfast. Chose this hotel as we could walk to nearby pub / restaurants and then take a stroll around town. On arrival, receptionist was efficient but not friendly. It was evident that the walls and some other areas leading to the bedrooms needed to be painted and warranted more attention. Website states all rooms have ensuite bathrooms. Slightly misleading, in my view, as our "bathroom", only had a shower. Room was clean, with iron and ironing board, bottled water and tea making facilities. Breakfast was unusual. Had to provide room number and siganture then practically ignored. Very strange self service regime that needs to, but wasnt, expalined to guests. In short could think of a lot nicer venues to spend €160 for B&B. Four Seasons, hope it lasts the Summer Season, I wont be back!

Hadn't planned to go to Carlingford, but it was near the end of the day and we wanted to spend one more night on the water and had never been to the Cooley Peninsula. Got a nice double room but I thought it was a little pricey at 180 euros. Still, I was saving money than if I had stuck to my original plan of staying up the road in Northern Ireland. Went down to the bar for a very good bar meal with friendly staff. While it's not the famous Four seasons we still had a very good visit.

A gang of us ( all under 30 ) hit carlingford for a friends stag. A few of us stayed in the "four seasons" which is located literally 3 mins from the centre of all the eh action.

Hotel is perfect for what I needed. Clean and comfortable and i thought my rate was fine - B&B : 129e. Our weather was glorious and the hotel does have some really fantastic views of the lough and of the mountains. It also has a wonderful garden for al fresco pints et al!. Food was grand - only really got to sample snack menu and the breakfast ( which was plentiful ).

All in all - Carlingford is a great spot for stags / hens and you cant go wrong with the four seasons.
