Stayed in ghan house last Friday night for my husbands birthday the food was absolutely beautiful , the staff were very friendly and welcoming and there was a lovely atmosphere it's not your typical overnight stay in a shiny modern hotel it's different experience entirely I found the room to be a bit chilly that was my only negative but the homemade bread and jam in the morning made up for anything and my hubby loved his fry :-) if your looking for something a little different and you appreciate great food this place is well worth a visit .

my husband and I stayed here recently for one night. the room we had was small but perfectly formed- i could ramble on but the roll top bath was what ultimately won me over!!! music was playing in the room when we arrived and it was warm and welcoming (took a bit of fiddling to get the music off though!!) we rolled in late from a ball next door in the four seasons, we had keys to let ourselves in. the whole place has a lovely feel and great character. the breakfast the next morn was perfect, staff were helpful and pleasant
will be back again

Thank you so much for appreciating what we do – from the ipod player playing music prior to your arrival, our excellent central heating, the 32” digital TV, the roll top bath & separate walk-in power shower…all the antiques and Georgian ambience, the ticking of the grandfather clock……and us and our staff.
An interesting juxtaposition and contra to where your ball was held. You obviously have class in choosing to stay with us! Thankyou.

Back to Ghan House last night for the second 10+ group dinner I have organised there in recent months. The welcome was as warm and laid back as usual.
Drinks in the cosy bar beforehand were unhurried. It is extraordinary how relaxed the staff make everyone feel - there is never a rush to hand out menus, or get people seated for dinner. Many - even some very good restaurants - can make one feel 'processed', but not here.
Onto the food. We were a group of eleven - some arriving quite late.
We all had the six course starter menu. Everyone single one of the group were fulsome in their praise for both the food and the service. The menu is extraordinary, offering fantastic local ingredients - I selected squab pigeon, scallops and venison as my three 'main' parts of the tasting menu. Each was cooked to perfection with very interesting sauces. The venison in particular was to die for. I also heard extremely complimentary remarks about the 12 hour Cooley beef. Other courses including desserts were excellent.
How Paul and Stephane can do this for €30 is beyond me. It absolutely has to be the best value in the country.
As I mentioned this is the second group I have taken for dinner in recent months, and I can only say that the service and food quality only gets better. Taking a group for dinner is a risky business, fraught with danger; but with Ghan House one can be as relaxed as the staff make you feel. Bravo.

Than you for highlighting how we feel business associates should be looked after – in a manner & pace they wish rather than being dictated to!
Thank you in putting your trust, again, of your own business reputation and personal standing in everything that we do. You are in good company to do so – various ministerial, country ambassadors and companies such as KPMG, Compaq and IOD have placed their trust in us providing 4 star accommodation, 2 AA rosette awarded restaurant and service to grace them with.
Our midweek tasting menu at €33 now is still amazing value and thank you for all your kind comments and we look forward to seeing you and your colleagues again!

Visited Ghan House as part of our annual away day with work team. Had use of meeting room for team building on day 1 and team brief on day 2. 11 of us did the 'hands on cooking' and I don't think Stephane fears for his job!! What a brilliant afternoon, learnt some very good tips which I can take home and impress the family. Ate the meal we all cooked that evening and it was an amazing setting and the food was delicious - go us!! I do believe we could have got on just as well with less food being prepared, but staff allowed us doggie bags, and my leftovers certainly did not go to the dogs!! Great staff, very accommodating and as commented before the music playing in your room on check-in was a lovely touch! Had a few drinks in pj o'hares that night and a great band playing there too with a good lively crowd in the bar for a Thursday night, band called the letterman I think? I had a great time and a big plus was a long overdue good nights sleep in a super cosy bed, with not a 3 or 2 yr old in sight!! Best wishes to Paul & his staff! Lisa

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself – like many other ‘delegates’ who have had their team meeting & team building with us – KPMG, Vodafone, IOD, Government departments, Compaq and many more – choosing the ambience and quality of what we offer above ‘standard procedure, fluorescent lit hotel offering’. Just like the corporate reviewer on 18th December 2013, you both seem to appreciate the finer points in life, 2 AA Rosette restaurant and service! And you appreciated a good night’s sleep - our beds – all have orthopedic mattresses, Sanderson duvet covers & natural, non allergic 100% natural pillows - allergy & asthma safe – triple certified to Oeko-tex standard 100, class 1. Look forward to meeting you again!

We stayed over a weekend late October and had a room in the Annex (top, far end), which is one of the larger rooms. We were shown to the room, lights were already on, music playing. Little detail but straight away shows that the management pay attention to detail and look to make you feel welcome from the first minute. The main house itself with it's fireplaces has loads of character. A place to unwind and relax. Breakfast was very good with all the usual items on offer. When you stay here, make sure you have dinner as well. Before the starter, we were served a small cup of chowder, which was absolutely amazing. Starter was the game terrine with all the expected flavour. Main course was a Sirloin of Cooley beef & 12hr braised beef cheek. The Cooley beef was a nice thick piece of steak cooked to (rare) perfection. The braised beef check just melts in your mouth and truly great flavour. One of the great meat cuts that should be on more menus. Clearly the chef knows how to produce flavourful dishes. Compliments and highly recommended place to stay and eat.

Room Tip: Room in Annex, top floor at the far end is larger then others in the Annex. Nice sofa and 3rd bed. N...

Your enjoyable experience of your stay at Ghan House was helped by the ‘little details’ and ‘loads of character’ that you described - that seems to be lacking from many of the bigger, newer hotels……..thank you for recognising this and enjoying our restaurant. There are many places to stay, other places that have good restaurants, but hard to find both and thankyou for your compliments and your recommendation for others…..’highly recommended place to stay and eat’.

Visited Ghan House on a work trip with my colleagues. A beautiful house set on georgous grounds, all the staff were very pleasant and the food we had was outstanding! We did the 'hands-on cookery class' with Stephane the chef and had great fun, learning many great recipes and tips under his guidance. Really had an enjoyable stay and would gladly look forward to returning once again!!! Will be recommending a visit to all my friends and family!

Thank you for taking the time out of your work schedule to communicate how much you enjoyed your corporate away day business meeting & team building at Ghan House. And you were able to appreciate our beautiful walled 3 acres of gardens. Thank you for your kind comments.
Also you were fortunate to learn from our 2AA Rosette chef Stephane in our Cookery School in a team building exercise and then enjoy his cooking later that evening. Look forward to meeting you again.

A very quaint house hotel with old furniture and style clearly to maintain the overall decor which is not at all modern. Honestly...I like modern and would rather have bright furniture than dark wardrobes and mirror frames. Room was very spacious as was the bathroom and toilet. The welcome was lovely and staff very attentive. Dinner was delicious and the vanilla creme brulee with crumbly shortcake to die for. My husband ordered a lemon dessert which was awful but his dinner was delicious also. Yes travellers I would recommend this restaurant not the overnight stay...pricey enough for one night! Enjoyable experience though and breakfast was great!

I’m glad you enjoyed your dinner and breakfast – except for your husband’s dessert, apologies – 11 out of 12 enjoyable courses in total…we’ll make it 12 out of 12 next time! I’m sorry that you thought our accommodation was expensive – unlike most accommodation providers who do not allow just 1 night stay over a weekend, we do allow a one night stay. However we do make it more attractive in our pricing to stay 2 or 3 nights over a weekend or midweek which naturally, to me, makes sense – it allows those who can only get away one night to be allowed to do so.
I glad you noticed we’re ‘not modern’ - Ghan House is a genuine Georgian House – it’s character and furnishing is in keeping with a house built in 1727 with ticking of a grandfather clock, log fires, large bedrooms and proper bathrooms – all our double & twin bedrooms have bath & shower en-suite. I’m glad you enjoyed all that we have to offer and look forward to meeting you again.
