We stopped here for lunch while on a tour and it was exactly the atmosphere I hoped Ireland would be. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and willing to do whatever they could to suit your needs. The atmosphere was great - cozy, warm and fun. Decent beer selection. A really great, pub where you can talk to the locals. I got some travel tips from a waitress, and the manager Barry was fantastic. Funny, warm and just someone that really cares. I felt this was more like my usual hangout rather then a bar I had never been too. Menu is limited, food is okay - vegetable soup was great - but the atmosphere and people are worth a stop in.

Taaffe's lie in the ruins of a 12 Century castle building and just off the sea front. Great location to have a beer and something to eat

We stayed near Carlington for a week in October. The first day we went into town and had a great pub lunch at Taaffe's. Not many people were there at the time, but the waitress built a fire for us and invited us back for live traditional music the next evening. We were really looking forward to it, but my DH fell and dislocated his shoulder, so we went to the hospital in Newry instead. Hope to get back again and will definitely stop at Taaffe's!

Went for a hen party. The place was a bit overcrowded and messy with drink spilt everywhere but the music was good and it was free in. The music stopped at 1am though which is extremely early

Food was okay, but the bar, venue, and staff were absolutely tops, definately worth a visit if you are near the park or Dundalk.
