Lena was not only very friendly and accommodating, but provided us with a unique Irish experience. Feeling the heat and taking the smell of the peat fire burning, as well as, learning that the cottage had been an old horse stable provided us with visions and thoughts about what life was like decades ago when the farm was in full operation. It is our hope that one day we might be able to return to Shannon Breeze and explore more of the local sights and eat in more of the local restaurants than we were able to on this trip.
We stayed here for the weekend due to taking part in a marathon in portumna forest...it took our breath away the most quirky typical old Irish cottage we've ever seen so beautifully maintained we were sorry we didn't have more time to tour about but will definitely be back! Recommend to anyone looking to off grid for a week or a few days just so peaceful and the open fire is so cosy as for Lena she's a real wee gem such a beautiful hostess a wee Irish lady
We stayed here for a week whilst participating in a clay shooting competition.
I would sincerely recommend Cummins cottages to anyone!!! A beautiful peaceful place! We were made to feel completely welcome by Lena, who puts a serious amount of effort into the maintenance and upkeep of the farm and cottages! I really wish I could give you more stars Lena!! Thank you for your hospitality!
Good place for exploring. You need a car. Cottage has character. Space outdoors to sit, eat etc if weather nice. Pretty to look at especially with hanging baskets.
We stayed just one night for a family event in the area, but wish we could have stayed longer. Lena was fantastic - so welcoming and helpful - and provided us with everything we could need. Our toddler loved the little cottage, and the gates on the stairs were a real plus :)
In August 2015 we, a family from Munich with two girls (9 and 12) spent 3 weeks in this lovely cottage. Mrs. Cummins was incredibly helpful and kind, and even though the weather wasn't quite as we had anticipated, our stay here near Portumna was a wonderful experience. Our smaller daughter (9) simply loved to feed the chickens and the sheep, and was so excited to eat eggs freshly found! We really enjoyed the fireplace; and the cottage, though small, had just the right size - so cosy!!
We made trips all over the country - Ireland ist just like a fairytale place, and Portumna ist a good starting point to head off in all kinds of directions, if you can't make up your mind what to see. It's not that far to Dublin - we visited several times, actually; though Galway is much nearer, of course, and very charming indeed. We have also been to Portumna Castle, Kilkenny Castle, The Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle, The Burren, The Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, Newgrange, and we made a trip to Northern Ireland as well, which was also very interesting.
The only thing to keep in mind while planning trips is - on country roads, always add 1/3 more time to the calculations of Googlemaps or else - you don't really want to drive the assumed speed on those roads...! ;-)
We can sincerely recommend staying in Cummins Cottages!!
