“Amazing find!”

This is a little gem of a Bed and Breakfast, the best I have been to yet. It is clean, well-cared for and Mary makes delicious breakfasts and packed lunches on requests. I went there for a horse riding holiday on my own and met some great Norwegians. It is the type of place where you know you will meet other fun, nice travelers. Mary did our laundry for us and went out of her way to find us good horse-related places to shop as well as good restaurants. Might I add that Mary's husband is very charming and shares her wonderful sense of humor. When my rental car died, he jumped started it for me right away and figured out how to find the code to get the radio going. Anyone would love staying at this place. Mary has a twinkle in her eye and shows a real fondness for her clients who keep coming back.

Just returned from a week's stay at the Oak Lodge while riding at Flowerhill Equestrian Centre. I cannot say enough good things about Mary Lynch and the B&B she runs with her husband, PJ. They are both welcoming and warm, and make you feel right at home. The rooms are neat, clean, with clean baths, lots of hot water. Mary makes a wonderful, big breakfast every morning with plenty of tea, coffee, juice. She packed us lunches to take riding with us. Had tea and scones for us in the afternoon. Gave great advice on pubs to go to, things to visit, etc, and was generally delightful in every way. You could not ask for a better place to stay in the area. I'd stay here again in a minute - and I hope I will before long!

I have stayed here on several occasions and just keep coming back time after time. Mary goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and comfortable, and makes these hearty breakfasts that keep you going all day. Visits to Oak Lodge can be combined with horseback riding at Flower Hill farm and Mary has all the contacts if you wish to do other fun things in the area. The location is great, a 5 min walk away from the main street in Portumna where you can find lots of restaurants and pubs, and convenience stores. I can definitely recommend this place to anyone, it feels like a home away from home!

Oak lodge is clean and comfortable and all that sort of thing, but two things set it apart for us. One is the way Mary runs her B and B. We arrived unannounced and she was away. No problem, when she returned she found us in the pub and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. Nothing seems too hard as she takes it personally that you are the most important guests she has ever had. Even her recommendations of where to spend the rest of our holiday in Ireland have made us feel that if we had not of stumbled into Oak Lodge, our time in Ireland would not have been as good.
The second is the way she bought Portumna to life. Arriving late, the town seemed uninspiring. Once Mary's influence and recommendations got going though, we ended up having one of our best nights in Ireland with singing and laughter. We must give Seamus Hayes' pub a plug too, but we got the feeling that Mary seems to be able to make a town work as a team to make visitors like us come away feeling not just welcomed, but lightened in the heart and ready for Ireland. May I add that our first attitude to Portumna was due to tiredness from our own travels, and not a reflection on Portumna itself. There is much to do there.
If I am too effusive it will make this review seem false, so what to criticise? We were woken in the early hours by younger guests returning from a night out. Noisy they were! I think, though, Mary had worked her magic on them too, and had seen that their stay in Portumna was as memorable as ours. If we had more stamina, we could have been as late home too! Watching her make sure they were up, packed, and away to meet their transport in the morning was an exhibition of her care for her guests, rather than any judgement of them.
Stay with Mary and P J, and you meet a whole Irish town, come away laughing and welcomed, and have one of those unique travelling experiences we all look for. Our thanks, Mary.

Room Tip: Ahrr,I would just be leavin' the wee details to Mary now.

Me and 3 friends have just finished another fantastic holiday in Ireland where we stayed AGAIN at the best and most friendliest B&B in Ireland. Centrally located in easy reach of the areas many facilities ie. fishing, golf, sailing, horse riding, etc. not forgetting walking in some of the most scenic countryside in the world, Also in easy walking distance of the towns many pubs and restaurants where there's a fantastic atmosphere and your made to feel like one of their own. Mary and PJ are the friendliest most welcoming hosts you can imagine, nothing is too much for them ... they don't just go the extra yard ... they go the extra mile ... if there was a league for B&B hosts they'd be champions every year. I assure you when its time to leave it will be with a heavy heart and a hint of a tear in your eyes !! Cant wait for next year.
