Great hidden gem! Location was great. Cabin was very spacious. We would recommend this is traveling with a group of 4 or more. Trish our host was easy to contact and she provided wonderful details and recommendations.
Just back from a lovely few days spent with family at this lodge. I had never visited Portumna before but I must say after this I will definitely be back and will stay exactly here again. The lodges themselves are like a little estate but make you feel like you're in the middle of the woods even though you are within walking distance to the shops and pubs. The owners really have done a great job with the decor which fits in great with the surroundings i.e there is a stove in the living room area and a deer head on the wall, also the deer cushions on couches blend in lovely. The bedrooms are very spacious and the 3 bathrooms are a real plus especially since there was five of us. A big plus for the kids was the Wi-Fi. During our stay the lady that looms after them called to make sure all was ok which I thought was lovely. While we were there we got to do the Portumna forest walk and Portumna Castle and grounds. Another place we visited was Portumna harbour, an absolute idyllic place well worth the visit. I would highly recommend a visit here and especially a stay at these lodges. You never know you might even see some live deers in the grounds of the lodges just like we did. Definitely be back soon. I'll leave some pics here just to show how beautiful this place really is
Absolutely beautiful lodges, perfectly clean, warm, and cosy. In lovely settings. Such a nice relaxing stay. Would highly recommend
Great place to stay. Perfect for our family and friends. We had all we needed and lots of room. Loved that we could walk to town to a variety of restaurants and pubs. Grocery store across the street and a couple minutes walk in town also. The castle was only a couple minutes walk also. We really enjoyed the castle tour and the Irish workhouse tour. Very interesting. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. We could not have asked for a better place to vacation. Would love to stay here again. It was the perfect place to stay to drive to different locations each day and be able to return in a timely manner.
This lodge was in the perfect location to explore the Shannon Lough Derg area and the space was brilliant for 5 adults and 2 children (one room wasn’t used).
Portumna sadly is not what it used to be but fingers crossed it’s beginning to revitalise, I know the area well from my childhood and the Ice cream at Salmons is still the best in the world!
Thanks Trish for providing such a great place to base ourselves and from which to explore.
A large group of us stayed here for a long weekend. The house has everything you will need, is close to the village and the forest park and was large enough and comfortable enough for our group which was 7 adults and 4 kids at one stage! One of the kids was 18 months so it was great to be able to open the front door but keep the decking fence closed and let him off to run around the deck. Would happily stay again.
Great house, All mod cons and a supply of board games that were used to drag the kids away from the TV. A green area opposite the house meant we could kick the kids out the door but still have an eye on them from the living room or picnic table on the deck.
My brother dropped his kids off for a surprise sleepover. No problem, The house is lovely and spacious so we put them making house supplied jigsaws upstairs while the adults had a quiet glass of wine downstairs.
The disused Shannon Oaks hotel is an eyesore on the area but we were able to tune it out quickly and focus on all the other amenities in the area,
