“Very vibrant and lively”

Stayed here for two nights while we were hiking the surrounding hills/mountains.
Place is very lively, with a huge kitchen where you can prepare your own meals for lunch/dinner etc.
Breakfast was just simple & enough to get us going... The owner has all the info you need about the local stuff to do and if you're up for some serious hiking around the "twelve pins" area!
Book here if you wanna meet some people from all around the world and you think about making your own meals (grocerie store is just around the corner).

"Make yourself at home", thats the great motto of this warm-hearted place.
You arrive at this hostel excpecting "normal hostel standart", but thats the first big surprise, you get received by the friendly stuff, from that moment on you know you are at home. There's nothing you aren't allowed to do at home, so if you want to cook something at 2am, then go for it, if you love dancing to house music, dance like nobody is watching you, if you feel chatty, have a chat.
The Lodge was probably one of the best accommodations I've ever been to, not only because of the owners Mike, Isabella and Lea, but also you can walk easily to Connemares most beautiful natural phenomenons (Victoria Gardens, Diamondhill, Connemara Nationalpark....).
The house itself is very clean and even presents a small breakfast-bar (like an irish pub). The rooms are not like in other hostels just equipped with bunk beds, they are more like hotel rooms, with a confortable double bed and en-suite bathroom. The only thing, there is a lot of rubbish and junk if you take a look behind the house, that really should be removed otherwise the lovley charme of the hostel is getting destroyed.
All in all it was an unique experience for me getting a part of thefamiliy in such a short time, I would definitely come back.

I'm sorry to say, that my stay in Letterfrack was unpleasant, surely the worst in Ireland.
The room was furnished with three beds, one (broken) night table and a cupboard without grips. No chairs, no table, just one broken night table for three with no light for reading. The bed was full of hair (not mine!).
The bathroom was even worse: the shower was dirty, obstructed and broken (did not close).
For the same rate (60 euros), or even less, I found in Ireland muuuuuch better than this, with breakfast included!
I give two instead of one just because the service was always kind.

Lovely room. Plenty of space and comfortably appointed furnishings. Friendly and professional service. Delicious breakfast. What more could you ask for?

We pulled in unannounced and managed to secure a room at the last minute. We had no idea what to expect.

Mike was gracious and generous...He was super busy remodeling and at times could not be there but always left someone in charge to help arriving guests. His hands off approach lent itself for guests to jump in and take what they needed and there was a sense that you were in your home.

Yes for some who like a hovering house mother this might not be the right place, but Mike was always there to answer questions and share ideas and good places to venture into...Letterfrack is a perfect place for those who wish to settle in for a week and journey into the sacredness that is the dark and terse mountains of Connemara. Or the wide expanse of the coastline with is its magical cliffs and secret beaches.

He also made himself available every morning for questions and advice during breakfast.
One of my two favorite Hostels in West Ireland where I stayed for a month...so I know what I saw and experienced. And He gets a Gold Star .

This was the nicest (of 3) hostels we stayed in during our Ireland vacation. It's in the northern part of Connemara. The rooms were nice and clean, very spacious. Bathrooms were modern and clean. It was the end of our trip, we were kind of tired, so we spent a bit of time just going to pubs and stores in the area, and hanging out in the sitting area, which was very comfortable and quiet. Free wifi. The owner, Michael, is very friendly and has lots of recommendations on walks in the area. From the hostel, you can walk to the foot of Diamond Hill, and then hike up a very nicely constructed trail (about a 2 hour moderate hike).

My husband and I stayed here for two nights over Easter. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good experience. We arrived at 3.30, but there was no one around to check us in; despite ringing the bell and the phone number provided. I left a message to say we’d be back at 4, but at 4.10 when we arrived back there was still no one there. However, I was able to get hold of Heather on the phone and she came down within 5mins. Then there was no room made up for us, so we had to wait for 10-15mins for that. Heather was very apologetic. The room was a good size and so was the bathroom. The heating wasn’t always on and the room was often cold, especially during the night. The shower had good water pressure, though we ran out of hot water both nights.
There was good free wifi. The breakfast was ok, but probably not really worth 5 euro; there was no fresh bread or yoghurt as advertised.
Both Mike and Heather were very friendly and very helpful with local information. The hostel is a great location for exploring Connemara National Park and surrounding areas including Kylemore Abbey.
