“We wanted to stay for another week”
Reviewed June 1, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

As soon as we left Sunset Lodge after our holiday we wanted to go back. Even though the weather was pretty poor, the location of Sunset Lodge more than made up for the wind and the rain. What could be better than a bracing walk on the beach followed by Guinness and oysters in the Smuggler's Inn next door, then tottering the twenty yards back 'home' to lounge around in the very snug chalet (a converted shop) and watch the waves crashing onto the shore far below. If you want guaranteed sunshine, go to Spain; but if you prefer the romance of big turbulent skies and wild weather, then this is the place for you.

Mary, the landlady is a delight - warm, welcoming and as other guests have noted, she very kindly left some supplies ready for us on arrival. A thoughtful touch. She did, however, disappoint on one thing - when we were in touch by e-mail before the visit, she practically promised there would be an exciting air-sea rescue with people being winched up into helicopters hovering over the bay, but (thankfully!) it was not to be and the only air drama we saw was a crow chasing a seagull.

Sunset Lodge is small but there is plenty of space for two people; it is warm and comfortable and, of course it has that magnificent view. Recommended.

Thank you, Maggie and Ernie, for your wonderful review. I look forward to meeting you again in the future. [Of course, now I know you're not at risk of sleep walking over the cliff, I can't promise you that helicopter rescue! ;-) ]

“Great place to stay”
Reviewed May 10, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

The cottage is simple but has everything you need for a comfortable stay; Mary and Patsy were very welcoming and had provided all the basics including some lovely fruit bread. There is a small garden on the cliff opposite, which is great for a sundowner, and the view from the cottage is breathtaking. Sandwiched inbetween two pubs means you don't have to cook but there is a shop nearby should you need supplies. We explored a little of County Donegal one way and County Sligo the other along the Wild Atlantic Way, a very beautiful coastline.

“Lovely views, pleasant stay.”
Reviewed March 1, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

me and my partner have stayed in the sunset lodge for 2 days, and had a fantastic time. Mary was very accommodating she had even left food for us, such a lovely woman. Lodge had amazing beach views from the door step. There is a lovely place just next door to the apartment there you can get a really nice meal. Would defenetly recommend this place for other holiday makers and hoping to come back again.

“Great spot”
Reviewed January 4, 2015 for a stay in November 2014

Stayed here in November with my girlfriend. Owners are very friendly and welcoming. The cottage is small but nice and cosy. Kitchen is well equipped with some basics like butter, sugar, milk, cooking oil, all the stuff you'll forget to bring yourself. Lovely location looking over the bay. The clifftop garden is across the road and is ideal for bringing your breakfast out to in the morning. You can rent surf boards from a shop less than a mile away. I Look forward to staying here again!

“Magnificent view”
Reviewed November 23, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We spent three nights at sunset lodge and were very lucky to have such nice weather in November. This allowed for some beautiful walks along the cliffs to Creevey and further on to Ballymacaward about four hours walk. The beach also goes on for miles with beautiful scenery along the way. Unfortunately the Smugglers Creek Inn and Gaslight Restaurant were only open winters hours which are Friday Saturday and Sunday so we could not sample these but this was more than made up for by the very generous hospitality of Mary and Patsy who provided a well stocked fridge and cupboards. The lodge is small but clean and cosy and a perfect spot for a relaxing break. We would definitely visit again.
