“Nice hotel”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Nice comfy seaside hotel. We stayed here for a night in early August. Breakfast and dinner were very good, staff exceptionally friendly. On the other hand we felt the decor was a little tired and facilities limited. Could do with a little freshening up. View from bedroom over Ballycotton bay is breathtaking.

We stayed in the Bayview for three nights in June. We were welcomed by a most friendly lady on reception. The hotel itself could do with updating and a little bit of TLC but this is my only complaint. The hotel is ideally located in the beautiful village of Ballycotton. It is close to a number of places worth visiting - Ballymaloe, Castlemartyr and Stephen Pierce Pottery in Shangarry. There are also a number of lovely beaches close by. The staff in the hotel were fantastic and were so helpful, recommending walks, the cliff walk is a must. The food was amazing and as nice as I have had in any hotel in Ireland. If you stay in the Bayview, visit the Blackbird bar in the village, which is an old-fashioned pub with a modern twist. Well worth a visit!

This hotel has so much to recommend it. It's a lovely building, well appointed in a beautiful setting overlooking the sea, in sight of the lovely harbour and lighthouse which make Ballycotton instantly recognisable. We arrived in the early afternoon and were welcomed by the very pleasant and efficient receptionist. This was our second visit to the Bayview.

Our room was on the second floor - lovely furniture and the windows open on to a small balcony with a wonderful view of the sea and the harbour. Unusually, for this summer in Ireland, it was a beautiful sunny afternoon so we walked down to the harbour to watch as several people fished from the pier. We returned to the hotel later to have a drink in the bar before dinner. All the staff are friendly and most pleasant to deal with. When the weather is suitable, bar food is served on the terrace in front of the hotel facing the sea and as we were passing the scenario reminded me of a scene from an Agatha Christie film! Most charming.

There is a library on the second floor with some newspapers and books as well as free wi-Fi access and I was most impressed that the hotel provides a selection of reading glasses for patrons. Very thoughtful.

We decided to eat in the restaurant and the menu was most appealing. We decided to forgo starters - and we were served some freshly baked bread which was really tasty. I ordered the monkfish while my partner chose the lamb. Both were delicious. The service in the dining room was excellent. My only complaint was the cost of an espresso - €6, seems outrageous for such a tiny amount of liquid!!

Breakfast in the morning was also very good. The buffet had a really good fruit salad and delicious bread and scones. The cooked breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. I love to get good bacon which tastes like bacon and not cardboard! The poached eggs I had were perfect also. Again service was excellent. This was a most pleasant visit - we will return.

My wife and I stayed here the last 2 days based on 2 things: our memories of a very pleasant visit nearly 10 years ago and the recommendation from friends who've recently visited.

Glad we did. The hotel rooms are comfortable, but not flashy. The restaurant is one of the best we've eaten in (try the "pig's head" even though you might not want to). The staff were friendly, real, and respectful. The view is spectacular - on rainy days and sunny days too.

Really, one of the nicest places I've stayed in a long time.

Just spent two totally relaxing nights at the beautiful Bayview Hotel. The staff were by far the friendliest I have encountered in any Irish hotel. The setting is magnificent and we were blessed with good weather which meant we could sit out on the terrace on both afternoons. The dinner in the restaurant was superb, however, some music would have added to the ambiance. The grounds of the Hotel are lovely and the fishing harbour is only a stroll away but there is nothing else to see or do in the immediate vicinity. The swimming pool in the sister hotel, the Garryvoe, is a 15 minute drive away along narrow winding roads.

Room Tip: Room 312 was a lovely comfortable room but only had a tiny window and no balcony which was very disa...

We have just arrived home from a wonderful break at the Bayview,Ballycotton. The hotel is set on a magnificent locations with views overlooking the bay. Our room was very spacious with a little terrace overlooking the Bay.Staff on arrival were very helpful and friendly and offered us coffee on the terrace as our room wasn't ready(we were early). Food in the restaurant was excellent for dinner and for breakfast, and food served on the terrace from the bar was equally as good. All the staff so friendly.
As the weather was so good we didn't travel far but enjoyed this little, unspoilt fishing village. We enjoyed the cliff walk, and after some local ice-cream.
We will definately return and will recommend to friends and family.
