“Best part of the golden circle tour”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

We parked away from the main car park and walked up through the Rift Valley. We arrived around 4 pm so it was quiet which was great after visiting the other golden circle tourist sites. The history of the area was well explained on notice boards and was fascinating with one of the worlds earliest parliaments. The visitor centre also explains the geology clearly with videos in English. It is a really beautiful place and not to be missed.

“Scenic Splendour”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

This visit was part of our Golden Circle Tour.A knowledgeable guide gave us valuable information regarding this area including many details about the geology and formations that are present in this area. I have to say I needed the loo here and it was the most expensive pee I've ever had to pay for, nearly R17.00 South African rands. They even took a credit card to pay too! Despite that the scenery is outstanding.

“Natural Wonderland”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

Another unique Icelandic experience. There are a couple of parking options here and as with the rest of rural Iceland parking is free of charge unlike the UK. The visitor centre is on top of the rift valley. We parked below and walked up. Here you can visit the waterfall and walk between the rift valley. The visitor centre charges for using the toilet facilities which we found unusual for Iceland. We found the place by parking in the service area on the main road nearby and asking the local diving club where it was. You can spend a couple of hours gently walking around this site. Excellent views and photo opportunities. Tip: visit the bathroom in the services free of charge

“Serene park with beautiful walks”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

We visited here and were taken by its tranquility and beauty. The buildings are the site of Iceland's first Parliament. The Icelanders gathered here hundreds of years ago.
There were brown trout spawning in the rivers and many paths to explore. Oh and do check out the toilets...what an amazing view!!

“Wish we had more time there”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We did this as part of a Golden Circle tour, and we only had time for one stop and no hiking. We stopped at the top of the cliffs and walked around for 15 minutes. I really wish we had had more time to spend and understand not just the spectacular scenery, but also the historical significance. But even our one stop was memorable. The rift caused by the spreading North Atlantic ridge is amazing, like a huge crack in the earth.
