This cabin was far better and bigger than we imagined. Robert the owner was very thorough in making sure we knew everything in advance and even rang me in the uk the day before we left to check we where sure on directions etc.
The cabin had everything we needed for 2 adults and 4 children and was warm and cozy inside. The views are breathtaking, the hot tub was divine in the snow and the location was excellent for driving along the golden circle.
I would recommend this cabin to anyone and will defiantly be returning. Thank you Robert for the most amazing holiday to date.
Really can't recommend this log cabin enough. Had four wonderful nights watching the northern lights whilst relaxing in the hot tub.
The lodge is very warm and cozy whilst outside we had amazing mountain views and loads of snow.
We hired a car and everything was easy to get too.
We enjoyed home cooked meals in the lodge and waffles made in waffle maker for breakfast.
Top tip pack flasks and by your alcohol at duty free (really helped on freezing days with our picnics and saved time and money)
I spent 4 nights in the cabin with my wife and 3 friends and we had a fantastic time here the cabin has everything you could possibly want. The location is perfect to explore the south coast of iceland.
we sat in the hot tub each night and were lucky enough to see the aurora each night while people on our flight staying in Reykjavic didnt see it at all. its a nice dark out of the way location so lights can be seen more easily even if its a weak show.
There is a fantastic view from every room and we left the blinds up on our windows at night to enjoy the night sky and try not to miss any light shows.( i recommend getting an aurora alert app for your phone to wake you).
The cabin was so well equipped with everything from cleaning to cooking. there was also a nice collection of cooking herbs and spices and oils, salt and pepper etc. would 100% recommend this cabin and will one day return myself as iceland is spectacular and cant imagine a better base camp than this.
This was such a find, so cheap compared to a hotel and very well equipped. You have to do the cleaning yourself and collect laundry and keys from a hotel near the Keflavik airport / blue lagoon - but its very easy to do and everything you need to know is provided for you in an email by the owner Robert who is very friendly and helpful.
The hit tub is a necessity in Iceland if you want to sit out of an evening and look out for the aurora! Absolutely tremendous place and for larger parties the addition of the small 2 bed summer house (en suite) separate from the main house is ideal.
Cant think of anything extra that needs to be said - a brilliant house, handy for the tourist hot spots but also ideal as a base for exploring a little further afield or just chilling out.
excellent location lovely cabin great information from owner .
couple of small issues on picking up bedding from hotel we told the staff amount guest and beds needed so did not check the bag but stuff was short when making up beds luckily there was a bag for the next guess so we used some of that but best check bag on pick up. then in morning shower flooded and after taking out plug total blocked with hair not nice on first morning and cooker was not that clean in oven so just knocked of a star for that. absolute awesome holiday and we saw the northern lights on our 4th night at the cabin and cars park up to see the lights on the road at the bottom. you dont need 4wd for the cabin but would advise if touring to get 4wd as a must we had a little dacia duster suitable for 4 and take all the extra insurance bits to cover yourself.all in all a great adventure on this awesome island . many thanks to our host if i went back would not hesitate in using again.
Echoing everyone else who has stayed here: we loved this place. We were a family of seven adults and stayed for six nights in late June. With the vaulted ceilings and open floor plan, the house never felt cramped. The kitchen is well-equipped and capable of handling meals for seven people (including a college aged boy). The bedrooms are roomy and very comfortable. The hot pot, wide deck, gas grill, and clothes dryer are all extra perks that make this house a perfect headquarters for a family vacation.
From the cabin we were able to get beyond the armada of tourist busses and selfie-sticks that make up the golden circle (except Thingvellir - must see, despite the tourists), and experience many quieter areas of southwestern Iceland: Husafell (and the F550), Landmannalaugar, Heimaey, and Vik.
The owner, Robert, was available by phone and helped resolve several crises -- getting locked out, messed up ferry tickets, -- that kept situations from becoming problems. I've read reviews complaining of the cleaning policy, and I don't share that sentiment. It is a lovely house and easy to maintain. We rented a house in Reykjavik after leaving the cabin, and wished that the owner had had a similar policy.
