excellent location lovely cabin great information from owner .
couple of small issues on picking up bedding from hotel we told the staff amount guest and beds needed so did not check the bag but stuff was short when making up beds luckily there was a bag for the next guess so we used some of that but best check bag on pick up. then in morning shower flooded and after taking out plug total blocked with hair not nice on first morning and cooker was not that clean in oven so just knocked of a star for that. absolute awesome holiday and we saw the northern lights on our 4th night at the cabin and cars park up to see the lights on the road at the bottom. you dont need 4wd for the cabin but would advise if touring to get 4wd as a must we had a little dacia duster suitable for 4 and take all the extra insurance bits to cover yourself.all in all a great adventure on this awesome island . many thanks to our host if i went back would not hesitate in using again.
Echoing everyone else who has stayed here: we loved this place. We were a family of seven adults and stayed for six nights in late June. With the vaulted ceilings and open floor plan, the house never felt cramped. The kitchen is well-equipped and capable of handling meals for seven people (including a college aged boy). The bedrooms are roomy and very comfortable. The hot pot, wide deck, gas grill, and clothes dryer are all extra perks that make this house a perfect headquarters for a family vacation.
From the cabin we were able to get beyond the armada of tourist busses and selfie-sticks that make up the golden circle (except Thingvellir - must see, despite the tourists), and experience many quieter areas of southwestern Iceland: Husafell (and the F550), Landmannalaugar, Heimaey, and Vik.
The owner, Robert, was available by phone and helped resolve several crises -- getting locked out, messed up ferry tickets, -- that kept situations from becoming problems. I've read reviews complaining of the cleaning policy, and I don't share that sentiment. It is a lovely house and easy to maintain. We rented a house in Reykjavik after leaving the cabin, and wished that the owner had had a similar policy.
The title says it all. Six of us had an excellent week staying at this wonderful cabin. You'll be pushed to find anywhere better. A few more fish wouldn't have gone amiss though ;)
Highly recommended! We had a lovely stay here, the lodge was spacious and homely with lots of dvds and videos for entertainment when not spending the night in the hot tub enjoying the views. With mountain views surrounding the lodge it really is breathtaking. The cabin was well equipped and warm and cosy. Great location, close to some big tourist spots and there's an amazing mountain drive if going to Reykjavik. Only problem we had was finding the lodge !
Thanks Robert for all your help, one of the most friendly and nice people that you could hope to rent a home from. The cabin was amazing and the views that we got with all the snow that iceland had were amazing. The log cabin is exactly as described and perfect for going round the golden circle. Thanks again Scott.
Located just north of Selfoss, the cabin was easy to find, very peaceful, clean and a great place to stay. A good location for exploring the golden circle and south coast and not too far from Reykjavik.
Cabin is well laid out, has everything you need and the hot tub is fab. Accommodates 8 people very easily, was warm and had beautiful views across the valley.
TIP - the bed linen needs to be collected from the Northern Lights inn near the Blue Lagoon which is not close by. Need to check you have the right amount of linen.
