“Want an Authentic Icelandic Experience? Stay at Geirakot!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

Geirakot is the perfect base to explore southwest Iceland and experience life on a working Icelandic dairy farm. The hosts, Oli and Maria, are very hospitable, friendly and welcoming. The farm house accomodation is beautiful and true to Icelandic custom and architecture. The farm itself has a relaxing atmosphere and is a short drive from the action of Reykjavik. I will definitely return on my next visit to Iceland!

We spent more than two weeks in Geirakot. From there we made field trips in southwest Iceland. We couldnot have more luck in finding this place for our stay. We felt part of the family, really enjoyed to experience this kind of farming, and think that we learned more about the Icelandic people than could be possible during a touristic roundtrip. Geirakot offers not only a sleeping room, but a nice house with a communal kitchen for cooking your meal or making a cup of coffee, a dining room and a room to be lazy and read a book or watch TV. Great!

I have now stayed twice with Oli and Maria, and both times I have been amazed with their hospitality. Coming to their farm is like going to stay with relatives back at home! You will not be disappointed by their beautiful guest house, the traditional, fresh, and delicious home cooking, or by the local history and insite to Icelandic life. Geirakot is easy to find and the family is more than gracious and welcoming. Geirakot is a huge reason for Iceland being one of my favorite places in the world! Waking up in the morning and being surrounded by mountains and lush pastures is really the most wonderful thing.

You will feel at home when you come!!

Geirakot is a charming, authentic Islandic farm operated by a warm, friendly and very helpful family. I was treated to a tour of the farm with an introduction to dairy farming, delicious home cooked meals and lots of interesting conversation. Olaf and Maria are genuinely interested in learning about visitors and making them feel welcome. Geirakot is also an easy driving distance from Reykjavik, making it a convenient change of pace from the city experience.

I stayed here for one night last summer - my only regret is that I could not stay longer! Lovely family, really cosy house. And I have one of the landlady's beutiful knitted Icelandic jumpers to remind me of my stay here.

I had a wonderful time both times I have stayed at this charming farm. The family is very hospitable, and they are happy to show how an Icelandic farm is run and recommend places you should see nearby or elsewhere in Iceland. Clean rooms, lovely people and nice surroundings - what more can you wish for?
