This hotel is not currently in any of the guidebooks as it was opened around two years ago. I booked it because it had such good reviews on this site, because the photos looked nice and because in a tour of iceland involving lots of different hotels, I thought it would be a pleasant change to have a few days in a self-catering, self-contained bungalow. I dared to hope that it would be a bit nicer than the hotels that we stayed in which were the standard, clean, comfortable, but not terribly exciting hotels that are on offer in Iceland. It was actually so far above my expectations that I found it difficult to believe. It is situated just outside Selfoss, which is a fairly non- descript town, but it is within easy driving distance of Rekjavik and many of the top tourist sights like Gulfoss, Geysir, Pingvellir National Park, etc . As we booked late we had the only bungalow still available, bungalow 3 which sleeps 7. There were 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 children. It was enormous, beautifully decorated and fantastically clean. It had a large fully fitted kitchen and a lovely big bathroom, a dining area and three separate sitting areas, one with flat screen TV and DVD. A decking terrace surrounded it with a lovely clean hot tub for use at any time (there are instructions in the house for which button to press to fill it up and the owner showed us how to do it on our arrival). We used it in the evenings and it was weirdly wonderful to sit on our private terrace in a hot tub with a drink, looking out over the amazing scenery. It had outside tables and chairs and a lovely clean gas barbecue. It was easy to self-cater as the fabulous kitchen was quite well equipped with dishes and cutlery and there were a couple of supermarkets 10 mins drive away in Selfoss, but a fantastic buffet breakfast in the hotel's lovely restaurant next door (the restaurant and reception are in a separate bungalow) each morning was actually included in the price of the bungalow. We also ate in the restaurant one night and it was a lovely meal. It was easily the best place we stayed in Iceland by some significant margin and is actually right up there with the nicest places we have ever stayed anywhere. Ours was the biggest bungalow they have, but I believe most sleep 4 and there are a couple of studios that presumably sleep less. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
