Glacier View Guesthouse
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 22, 2014

I had the pleasure of staying at the glacier view guest house for 3 days. Starting with a warm greeting by Borgar and Elin after which I already felt at home, I was showed around the guest house and the adjacent area which was in a serene, picturesque location. Elin had been busy preparing us an Easter feast complete with Easter eggs as it was the Easter weekend. It was easily the best meal I have had over my whole trip in Iceland! The rooms were well spaced, very comfortable and all amenities were thought of. The morning came with another surprise of a hearty breakfast which consisted of traditional meats with Icelandic breads and spreads. Staying here was not just amazing because of the nice guesthouse, it is also the warm, friendly hosts which make you feel right at home! If you are looking for the best in Icelandic hospitality, make sure you visit the glacier view guest house and you won't be disappointed! I will definitely visit again!

We arrived at the guesthouse late in the evening and there were Elin and Borgar on the doorstep to greet us with a lovely warm welcome! They had prepared an amazing 7-8 course meal for us and the other seven guests staying there, made with the freshest, local ingredients and they engaged us all with their friendly, lively conversation. The rooms were perfectly clean and comfortable and we slept very well. The next morning over breakfast, we could see the beautiful view of the Glacier nearby. Elin and Borgar are such lovely and interesting people, we felt lucky to have stayed at their guesthouse.

The remotes of the guest house may be an issue but once you're there it will be well worth it. The host is very friendly and attentive and offers a real family welcome. The stand alone accommodation with three double rooms and a lounge area with american style kitchen is excellent for families or groups. The food was very well made and presented using good quality ingredients, with plenty on offer.
I can whole heartedly recommend this guest house to anyone knowing they would not be disappointed.
Thanks
..Keith..

A very good Guesthouse with an excellent host. I had the best night's sleep and probably the best food here during a 10 day trip to Iceland. Elin is very welcoming and engaging.
The scenery is amazing and seems to change by the minute. A very special place.

We tried 6 hotels around Vik and they were all full and finally a hotel receptionist helped us secure a room - 46kms away ! We were told it was a tiny room not usually rented out and drove there
not expecting much. When we arrived the warmth of the welcome and good humor of Elin made up for the fact that the room was indeed small but she rented it to us because we were in need.
We all chuckled together and woke up to a wonderful shared breakfast with other guests in the beautiful dining room decorated so pleasantly. The other guests were 2 couples from Barcelona, a pair of French friends and a young Swiss couple. Borgar & Elin are wonderful hosts who live interesting lives and it was a pleasure to get to know them.
I recommend this Guesthouse highly ! I feel the real Iceland is found in the heart of the country, in nature, in its wildness, its beauty and its people. You will find it here.

Room Tip: We got the last room - a room that isn't usually rented out at all - it was the kindness of thei...

Glacier View Guesthouse
I travelled with 3 friends and we stayed at Glacier View for one night. Elin was a fantastic host – it really felt like we were invited to dine and stay in her home.

The guesthouse
The guesthouse itself is newly renovated to a very high standard, and beautifully decorated with personal items from Elin’s travels and work as a tour guide in Africa (!). All the rooms are beautiful with incredibly comfy beds, pillows and bed clothes, and Elin was kind enough to put two of us in the Vatnajökull family room at no extra charge. The living room would have offered a great view of the glacier, had it not been so cloudy/foggy. The bathroom was spotless with a luxurious rainforest shower, and there were more bathrooms so we never had to wait on one another! Elin also keeps hens in her backyard, which gave us the freshest boiled eggs in the morning.
The host
Elin Þorgeirsdóttir is an amazing host and an exceptional woman. She was very warm and hospitable, and shared many great stories from her travels while remaining perfectly humble, down-to-earth and unpretentious. She and her husband run a tour company in Africa, based on the simple but ingenious perspective “Why work to save money to travel as we want, when we can travel as we want and try to make it our living?”. They renovated the guesthouse by themselves as well.
The food
Something needs to be said about the food. We were served a delicious, home cooked three-course meal with the freshest char (from a nearby fishing river of course), organic and home sourced ingredients and two kinds of delicious homemade bread. In the morning, the breakfast table was full of homemade jams, locally sourced products and homemade bread. As a great bonus, she offered us to try some of the traditional Icelandic smoked lamb meat from a nearby farmer, which led to us driving there the next day with her road instructions and purchasing premium, homemade smoked lamb for ridiculously good value.

All in all, an amazing stay and Icelandic hospitality at its best. If you are thinking of a beautiful, comfortable getaway with a great personal touch, don’t hesitate to stay with Elin. She will make sure you have an amazing experience!
