Basic yes, but no hot water and the reason is because 30 guests all showered around the same time. This is a hotel isn't it. Over priced with simple plain food in Resturant. Seek out others in the area.

Just because they are a chain of Icelandair hotels, they are not all the same. The day we arrived it was very windy and raining. Traveling as a group thought we'd all stay in the same wing but nope, worked out fine though. The rooms are compact although sufficient room for moving about and they were clean and comfortable. I will say the walls aren't sound proof, could hear my neighbors phone conversation! What I like about this hotel, they had tissues and a face cloth! Food was good.

We stayed in one night on our way through to the east. We were the only guests that night which felt a bit strange. The receptionist commutes all the way from Hofn! Room adequate but small. Breakfast was very good - wide choice and high standard. Whilst at the hotel, do visit the double waterfall down the road and climb up the steps to the lake above - we did this on the morning after a fresh fall of snow and the view was spectacular.

clean rooms and bathrooms and a good spot to stay visiting the iceberg lake. there were only 4 or 5 rooms occupied when we were there with 8 people but that caused trouble enough. We couldn't have dinner at 7.30 because it was "full". Arriving at 8 only 2 other tables where in use. So I wonder what will happen when all the rooms are occupied. Nevertheless diner was fine.

This hotel is on the edge of a vast expanse of lava fields about 100 km west of Skaftafell and associated glaciers. The lava fields and glacier rivers are geologically interesting but they do stretch the whole 100km looking a lot like a moonscape. The small town with a long name that the hotel is in, Kirkjubaejarklaustur, is on a small river, with a small waterfall (Systrafoss) A walk to the top of the waterfall reveals a good view across lava fields and mountains and glaciers. If only the hotel was up there with that view! The town itself is not that attractive but does have a supermarket, bank, restaurant and petrol station. Next door to the hotel is an outdoor heated pool and gym. The pool was closed when I visited.
The hotel is clean, double beds comfortable but pushed together single mattresses as is often the case in iceland. The room is standard minimal Scandinavian style with wood floors and mostly white walls. Bathroom with shower but no bath tub.
The staff were friendly and keen to suggest local walks and drives. I have some food allergies and they were happy to help me avoid foods I couldn't eat.

We stayed in the hotel for one night as we did a 2 day trip along the south coast of Iceland starting from Reykjavik and it was a convenient place to stop off. We were staying in the Icelandair Marina Hotel in Reykjavik which was nicer and had more atmosphere. I realise that we visited in March and there weren't a lot of people travelling in this area but the hotel just didn't have much character. There were quirky wooden figures like in the Marina Hotel but there was no signature style...the decor was quite plain by comparison. The comic art pictures on the wall added character but some were a little strange.

The rooms were a reasonable size, bigger than the Marina Hotel, and the bathroom was bigger, although still only had a shower. We were staying for one night but there were only 2 small sachets of shampoo/conditioner provided for 2 of us to share and we hadn't taken these with us as the other Icelandair hotel provided nice toiletries so we thought there would be no need. There was a decent hairdrier and a decent sized wardrobe. The bed was not a double bed; it was 2 single beds together and you could feel the gap quite clearly, so that was a bit uncomfortable.

The restaurant did not serve lunch in the winter season which meant we had to find somewhere else to eat lunch, but they did serve dinner and the meal was very nice. We had blueberry goose carpaccio for starter which was delicious and arctic char to follow which was also lovely. The apple crumble dessert was nice but not special...same for the 'fire and ice' dessert.

The staff were nice and friendly. The hotel wasn't staffed 24 hours (I suppose it's quiet so wouldn't be reasonable to expect this) so the bar is locked up and (although we were up quite late chatting to other guests and staff let us stay in the bar longer than usual) we were relegated to the upstairs landing which wasn't quite as pleasant.

Maybe in the summer season this hotel would have more atmosphere. However, if it's a quiet, clean hotel you're looking for as a short stopover this would fit the bill adequately.

The 4 of us stayed for 3 nights in the Icelandair Hotel Klaustur and it was unforgettable. The service, the room and the food was excellent - we had breakfast and dinner daily in the hotel restaurant. One day the hotel manager and local guides organized a day trip for us which included visiting locals and hiking around the craters by the great lava field Eldhraun. The children loved walking around in the lava field and looking into caves. We had lunch provided by the hotel near Langholt church. The other day we went hiking up a funny mountain called Orrustuholl in a lava field (incredible view from there to the Vatnajökull Glacier and over the lavafield) and had a pick nick in the soft moss by the mountain - it was just awesome. There are a couple of waterfalls and lakes to visit, we did not had time for everything, unfortunately.
Many thanks to the staff and locals - we will definitely come back!
