Hotel Geirland

Hotel Geirland is situated near Kirkjubaejarklaustur so it is easy if you want to go to the Vatnajökull (+/- 1 hour by car) and the Jökullsarlon (+/- 2 hours by car).
The rooms are big and well equiped. It is VERY calm !!! No neighbour, the city is at 5 - 8 km... only the farm and the sheeps.
Be cautious on the road to Geirland : it is well indicated on the main road but the state of the road is quite bad.
The staff is kind and helpfull. The price is honest and the restaurant is good (based on the products of the farm).

We went there for lunch and the chef mentioned that they only run a dinner service. He was kind enough to fire up the grill and served us lamb burgers on the waiter's recommendation for lunch. The burgers were tasty and so was the coffee.

No luxury but a very nice and comfortable place in a very very beautiful surroundings. Food was good, staff was friendly and we had a very good stay. I highly recommend this when traveling from south to east Iceland.

Last September 3 friends of mine and I took a trip to Iceland. It was an adventure trip with hiking and camping.

The day we had planned to camp the weather turned really bad and we couldn't. We drove around and came upon Hotel Geirland. We walked up with no reservation and asked if any of the cabins we available for one night, they did and were happy to rent us one. Great cabins!! One twin bed and bunk beds were in the room and they put a fold up in for our fourth sleeping bag arrangements which is fine since we were camping anyway plus a coffee maker and burner if you want to cook yourself.

The Manager Stein was fantastic! Super friendly staff, great food and full stocked bar. Which was great for four American guys.

Highly Recommend staying here on your trip to Iceland

We stayed here on a winter trip and it was very quiet - just us an another couple. The room was comfy, spacious and with a nice view of the countryside. We were in the main block - I see there are cabins available too. Wi-fi reception was good enough to use Skype in our room.
Dinner was delicious. Prices varied from reasonable inexpensive (for a hotel in Iceland!) to fairly pricey. There was a good range of drinks available incuding some local beers.
The only issue we had was in the morning. We had been asked what time we'd like breakfast as there were so few guests and we said 8. The other guests must have said around 8:30 as we met them leaving their room at that time. However, the main block wasn't opened until 9 as the staff overslept and the staff were rushing to get everything out! As we had a long drive back to Keflavik that day, it did impact on our activities slightly.

Title says it all. Free WIFI in our room, which is also a plus. The only negative thing I can say is that the TV in our room was small, but of course I'm just nitpicking and being silly.

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We stayed in the large building which is newer (built in 2011) than the small cabins, and more moder...

We stayed at Geirland Hotel near Kirkjubaejarklaustur while on a trip around the South of Iceland in December 2012. We were welcomed like long-lost friends. The rooms were modern, well appointed, really comfortable and warm. The food in the restaurant, all cooked by the owner, was really good. A varied menu of really tasty dishes based on local ingredients. Breakfast was a real spread... The two farm dogs are really friendly too! And we saw some splendid Northern Lights displays. I would highly recommmend this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main hotel block.
