“Pretty good”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

This was the only place we could secure a booking on the south coast, with everything between Hofn and Vik seemingly unavailable. However, even if that hadn't been the case, i wouldn't have minded staying here. It's reasonably close to Skaftafell NP, and the surrounds are nice.

This place is very much a hostel type arrangement, and it's a good one. Plenty of space in the common areas. The kitchen areas are divided into smaller spaces, which is a great idea. A washer is available (I think for around 800ISK). Rooms were simple and what you would expect from a hostel. Linen costs a bit extra.

Bathrooms are a bit strange - most of the bedrooms are upstairs, but most of the bathrooms are downstairs. There was a wait for the shower upstairs, but none downstairs, so head down if you don't want to wait. Each of the shower rooms and toilets were private.

The biggest downside is that there's nothing really close by for food or provisions, so keep that in mind.

Room Tip: Remember that most of the bathrooms are downstairs.

I'll start with the positive: The location is nice and quiet, Close to Skaftafel, clean rooms and facilities, well equipped common kitchen and dinning room.....However.

The not so good: For the price we paid, this was the least service for the money in 16 nights in Iceland. If the price was 50% of what we paid, I would rate it excellent.
The owner lives in an adjacent building. She is there to take the money. We had to make our own beds (with linen for which we paid extra). No WiFi. room is so small, we couldn't open the suitcase. there is not even one shelve in the room, or any place to put what comes out of your luggage. The owner or anyone didn't show his face during our stay there.
There was some cold vibe in the place.

Room Tip: Try another place

A great place to stop on the route to the South - in the middle of nowhere and great for photos - Geese will visit you every morning looking for food - good parking - clean accommodation - good kitchen for preparing your own meals - highly recommended.

The hostel is fine if you only check-in to sleep, not to enjoy the icelandic hospitality. We barely had any contact with the staff, and we were surprised to see that wa had to pay an extra fee for the linen and for not being a member of some hostel thing (I don't remember what it was). On the good side, room and shower were clean.

Stayed here for one night recently.

SERVICE: Owner was nice enough though not talkative and we seldom had contact with the exception of check-in.

LOCATION: Not really located in a "destination location" but more so a in-transition-to-a- destination location. It was super windy in that area and there was nothing to look at in the immediate area.

ROOMS: We had a double room. It was teeny tiny and could have used a closet or a place to store/hang-up our stuff but it did the trick. Our bed was very comfortable. I have no idea how often the bedsheets are changed as we were told not to remove the pillow cases or bed cover and had to leave the comforter in the room rather then place it in the laundry bin. My bed had hair on it and the comforter had stains. Yucky, yuk, yuk!

BATHROOM: The bathrooms were fine and we never had to wait.

KITCHEN: Kitchen was always tidy and had a lot of pots, pans, plates etc. The seating area was great.

VALUE FOR THE MONEY: There were no real perk to staying here. It wasn't even that affordable as we paid more to stay here than to stay in accommodations near the capital. TV was unavailable and there was no internet service.

I don't think that I would stay here again.

Room Tip: * Ask for a room that is not above the kitchen area. * Bring your own sheets or sleeping bag unles...

Good location when you want to visit the National park in Skaftafell or Jökulsárlón.
The rooms are clean and the dining room is very big. Also the bathroom is large.
Not much contact with any staff as book-in separate house and no staff sighted in actual hostel so no-one to ask about anything.
