This is a basic hotel next to a horse ranch. Very good location for the golden circle tour. Close by Reykjavík. Good breakfast buffet. We did not try any other meals but read good reviews. Only problem I can say is the heat in guestrooms. There was floor heating that cannot be controlled by the guests. We count the rooms a bit too warm.

Stayed here for two nights at the end of November. I was really impressed by this hotel. Very clean and cozy. The lobby area and lounge is very welcoming. They always had some coffee out for you to grab and a fire going in the fireplace. The room was clean and I really appreciated the heated floors. Those were definitely a nice touch. I really liked how a lot of the rooms were named after some of the horses at Eldhestar. They would also have a plaque accompanying the name giving a brief description of the horse. You can really tell that they love and care for the horses here. This was also really prevalent during the horseback riding tour we did. They have hundreds of horses at Eldhestar, and very nice facilities to care for them. They told us that the horses only stay at Eldhestar for 6 months and they bring those horses to the countryside for a 6 month “vacation”. They have other horses that are already “on vacation” in the countryside that they rotate between. Lots of staff in the stables to take care of the horses and it was all very clean. The horseback tour was amazing and I definitely recommend that if you are going to Iceland it is something you do.

Our stay also included breakfast which was an assortment of cereals, meats and cheeses, and fresh waffles and jam. I really enjoyed the breakfasts here, all very healthy offerings and tasted fresh. All of the staff we encountered ad Eldhestar whether at the hotel or the stables were extremely friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel is only about 40 mins from Reykjavik and right outside of Hveragerdi. I think it is in an ideal location for a lot of the main sights in the Golden circle. I recommend going into Hveragerdi and doing the hike up to the hot springs. I definitely recommend Hotel Eldhestar it was an amazing experience and a very enjoyable stay.

A group of us booked a couple of rooms in the guesthouse. I guess it’s an addition to the hotel where there’s a common area with kitchenette and sitting area and a couple of shared bathrooms for a possible of 19 guests. The problem with this is that the guesthouse seems to be so removed from the hotel and the management so guests make a lot of noises in the common area late at night. The management doesn’t come over to check at night either. The breakfast was good for Icelandic standard. The showers are a bit crazy with just a shortened shower curtain blowing around so the water is splashing all over the place.

I’d recommend you book rooms in the main hotel and not the guesthouse near the horses.

We arrived late but the rooms were perfect - so clean and welcoming. Lovely staff, great to have a hot drink, cookie and a quick game of chess in the social area. Delicious breakfast, interesting history and warmly feel. We liked it best out of all the accommodation we stayed in (which included some that rated themselves higher). Great value , we will definitely stay again. Thank you for the extra bedding and great organisation.

We stayed here with our kids for one night while touring Iceland at the end of August. The hotel was very clean and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Best part was the heated floors which were much appreciated since we arrived soaking wet and freezing after hiking up to the hot springs in Hverageroi and getting caught in the rain. Staff was very nice and friendly. Dinner was superb especially the vegetarian cauliflower soup. Appreciated that the kitchen were very flexible about the menu and accomodated our needs and requests. There were a few (noisy) groups there probably for the horses but our rooms were very quiet and we all slept soundly.
