“Pretentious, tiny, and way overpriced”

We stayed one night here in July during our 10-day drive around Iceland. Thankfully, it was no longer than that. I don't mind taking off my shoes before entering as long as what I am entering is worth it. But come on! An 8X10 foot room with vinyl faux wood flooring that is peeling up? Or a stained comforter? How about the toilet where you had to slide in SIDEWAYS and mash your knees against the wall. No table. No chairs. Barely a bathroom. Just 2 uncomfortable and separated single beds, and a very small open shelf for clothes. We have stayed in Europe before, but this room was much smaller than any we had been in during other travels, or while in Iceland this year. And to demand that you take off your shoes? Give me a break. Our suggestion: STAY AWAY form this one.

We spent two nights here at the end of our holiday in Iceland because of its proximity to the Golden Circle and closeness to Reykjavik and the airport. In that aspect it was well chosen but was slightly disappointing otherwise. Our room was a reasonable size but as stated in previous reviews the skylight is a real problem in the summer months - sleeping is very difficult. The bed was fairly comfortable and it was nice to have a sofa in the room. The bathroom was a little small and the basin was cracked.

Breakfast was very basic with a self-service system in a kitchen piled with dirty dishes from guests who had eaten earlier.

The hotel is in a nice position out of the town and with geothermal activity in the hillside behind the rooms. Having a balcony to sit on was nice although the scaffolding and asbestos-looking sheets separating it from others were a little off-putting.

This was my 6th trip to Iceland and I stayed in many hotels. This was the first one where I would like to stay longer, not just for an overnight stay.
what a pleasant, stylish place to stay! and the view over the river is priceless. you are a 5 minutes walk away from the ever "moving earth". you see the steam coming out of the (recent ) cracks in the earth going up, from the room. the people are very friendly, there is a family-like atmosphere and the breakfast is very nice.
And of course the pool and hotpot and steamroom are an added bonus.
Will definetely come back for a ,I'll hope longer stay.
And the best thing: it is very cheap.

Our experience at Frost and Fire was positive. The ability to walk out from the guest house to trails and link up with a Golden Circle tour was great. The rooms at Frost and Fire are quite small and during the summer allow light in through a skylight day and night. We did enjoy the hotpots and the pool as well.

The room was very clean and the decoration/design made a welcome change to the euro bland normally offered by hotel chains. The room had a kettle so filling flasks for a days travelling and late night drinks were no problem. The owner was very friendly and his desire to create a homely environment has obviously succeeded.

The breakfast was of high quality and again the difference between this and a chain type hotel was very refereshing. The location was great for day trips across the South West. We only stayed at a chain hotel when visiting the Skaftafell area ( apprx 3-4 hours drive) and this although twice the cost of Frost and Fire wasn't half as good..

For our last night we returned to Frost and Fire as it's not too far from Kelfavik Airport (apprx 45 mins). We would stay here again without any hesitation.

Beautiful guesthouse. The staff are very nice. The owner is an attorney who loves so much Icelandics' paintings.
Each rooms have an Icelandic painter name and have paints in the room.
There are hot spots, swimming pool, steam bath. The price of the room includes Breakfast.

I would definitely recommend this place. They have hot pots that overlook a river. The rooms are a bit small but nicely decorated. They are about 2 miles from some good hiking destinations. There is a skylight that is about 2 feet by 2 feet that lets in some sun. Overall, a nice place to stay.
