During our visit in September 2016 we stayed 2 days at Lake Myvatn. It is a breathtaking place especially during fall with lots of things to explore from hiking to natural hot springs. The scenery is just perfect for taking mesmerizing photos. One other thing to do while up there is a trip to the little fisher town of Husavik also known as the whale watching capitol of Iceland. Next time we will spend more time at Lake Myvatn.

Around the lake there is many things to do like the volcanos and the hot spring.
North from the lake Dettifoss, Godafoss Husavik and more.
Very interesting area to spent 3 days.

Mývatn offers many natural wonders and heaps of walking paths to help you explore this area. Walking paths are from the very easy to hard (up low mountains). I cannot put web addresses here but if you google "mývatn what it has to offer" you´ll get plenty of ideas for locations to visit and things to do. Consider walking near the lake (e.g., Skútustaðir or Höfði), check out Dimmuborgir, wonderful some say creepy lava formations, with lots of walks, and try Vindbelgjarfjall (fjall=mountain) for a great view.

Beautiful lake but the surroundings were the most crowded we met in our 12 days Iceland tour. The campsites were also full so we had to ran from this region.
