It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the the edge of the Hverfjall. The slope was a little precipitous with many gravel. You have to watch your steps, especially children and the elders.

It was a super windy day when we visited this crater. The walk to the top is quite steep and slippery - it's not a groomed trail with good traction; instead it's made of slippery pebbles that add a little challenge to the climb. When you add wind, it make the hike a little more tricky, and once we got to the top we felt like we were going to be picked up and thrown right off!

The crater itself (the inside) is not terribly interesting - no color or interesting features. The inside looks exactly like the outside - gray pebbles. What's interesting about this crater is the beautiful view you get of Lake Myvatn. Worth the climb.

Bonus - the parking lot has nicer, newer bathrooms.

Great view of the inside of the crater and of Lake Myvatn. Hike up to the top edge from the car park and if you keen walk the rim as well. It's worth it!

Pretty short trail going up the crater. Really nice view on the lake. We didn't go all the way around the crater but went to the highst peak and for us it was enough

This was an interesting sight. We're 60+ and climbed to the top. It was very cold and windy, but the view was incredible, and being on top looked like something from a sci-fi movie. There's nice pay restrooms at the bottom, and it looked as if they were putting in vending facilities.
