We stayed here for one night. We didn't try the evening buffet but went for the nearby restaurant instead. The breakfast was good although they had sugar in their scrambled eggs (something we encountered multiple times on Iceland). A free sauna is offered to guests although we didn't try it. Only bad part was that the rooms seemed to have thin walls as we could easily hear our neighbours talk.

Dear guest!

Thank you for staying with us :) I am surprised to hear about the sugared scrambled eggs, they are not supposed to be served that way and we will look into that!
Please be welcome again.

Best regards,

We stayed at the hotel for 2 days. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly. We were on a group tour so we stayed in one of the buildings. We were able to visit several of the places around the lake including the geothermal bath. The hot water in the shower is heated by the geothermal water and contains minerals. Loved this place!

Room Tip: As I did not get to see other rooms, I don't have any tips.

We stayed here for 2 nights, and found the location excellent right by the lake and tourist info. However, that was the only real plus of staying here. It was clean, room spacious and staff friendly, but overall I would say, this hotel is very overpriced, even by Icelandic standards. Options for evening dinner were very limited, and then our criss-cross fries came up burnt! It's not a large hotel, so when a large party of an American production team were also staying there fimling for a Louis Vuitton commercial, it felt not only overcrowded in communal areas, but we also felt very uncomfortable and so spent the evenings in our room watching TV and drinking wine. We feel the hotel should have informed us of this party staying there when we booked. I would say if another hotel nearby has availability then try to book there instead, to get a better deal for a very similar price!

Hotel Reynihlíð was the perfect place for me to stay at without a car and be able to walk outside to take photos. It’s just a ramble to the lake edge and a 10-minute walk to the village. The room may be a bit small by modern standards, but it was fine for me. The shower stall is separated from the rest of the bathroom only by a rod-to-floor shower curtain and a floor edge, but that was enough to contain the water. The only down side was the wi-fi, which was slow or did not work from my 2nd floor room, in which case I used the lobby computers. Overall, I was very happy with my stay though. I much appreciated the staff and general manager being hospitable, friendly, and accommodating. The breakfast had a good variety of items, the restaurant’s cauliflower and pumpkin soups were very good, and I especially enjoyed their dessert skyr!

Dear guest!

Thank you for your stay and your review, we appreciate both :) As our Wi-Fi concerns, usually it works very well inn all our rooms, but there can be problems seeing as we are in the highlands of Iceland, and we are sorry that you didn´t have quality reception in your room, but glad it worked out thogh. We try our best to keep the Wi-Fi up and running for all of our guests at all times.

Hope to see you again some day!

Best regards,
Þuríður Pétursdóttir

We had been stuck due to snow in Akureyri so our 3 night break was 1. The usual guide wasn't available and Kristian was great. He managed to pack in as much as possible in the short time we had.

Hotel is along the lake so nice view from the window. Dinner had limited menu of 1 choice of each but was very nice-as long as you like very rare beef. Rooms comfortable but no hot water from the shower in the morning. Don't know if that happens often as didn't have any one morning in hotel in Akureyri.

We booked a " Winter Nature Break " ( 4 days ) at the hotel Reynihlid and stayed in Myvatn mid Feb. 2014.
We enjoyed our break very much. The hotel Manager, Petur and his staff made us feel very welcome.
Our room was very large and overlooking the lake and benefited of free Wi-Fi. The food in the restaurant of the hotel was very good ( mostly local specialities ) and time spent in the lounge of the hotel was very enjoyable. All excursions professionally organised by the hotel were most interesting and the landscape around the hotel is very beautiful ( great photography ).
We also took an independant excursion ( not cheap ! ) with Saga to Dettifoss on a Super Jeep. This was a terrific experience in deep snow and many thanks to Anton for a super day !
All in all a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lake view.

This was our most expensive night in Iceland. The good news is that it is in the heart of a very beautiful area and it is the least expensive place I could find. The room was clean but ordinary. The breakfast was OK but not up to the standards of other places we stayed. The restaurant next door was fun and had good food.
