There are two roads to Dettifoss. One is unpaved. The other is paved, has a nice parking lot, port-a-potties, and a better view of Dettifoss. A short hike takes you to Sellfoss. Get there early before the tour busses.

We really enjoy visiting this waterfall. Try to approach it from the East, much better view and you can be closer to the water.

The sheer volume of water is enough to scare one!!! Also a short walk ahead through the rocks is selfoss which is equally impressive. Approach from the west side - the road is worse but the views are better and you can walk along the bank to selfoss. East side has more cut off views from a ridge. The west side road also feels like mars :)

While this waterfall is not a beautiful as Godafoss, it is certainly impressive. The volume of water flowing over the falls it really impressive. The day we were there, the mist coming out of the canyon was generating a beautiful rainbow. Takes some time to get to from Akureyri, but if you rent a car after getting off your cruise ship, you can include this in your excursion for the day.
