We stayed in one of the cabins at this lovely little guesthouse in early March 2012. The cabin, whilst small, was very clean and warm with everything we needed. Helga (the proprietor) upgraded us to a cabin with private facilities at no extra cost, since they were available, which was much appreciated. The price itself was very good for Iceland.
Her father is a friendly, helpful chap who was happy to let us sit in the glass-walled dining area of the main house for as long as we wanted with our wine while we waited for the Northern Lights to appear, which they did - most beautifully! (see photo). He also sold us some lovely fresh fish at an excellent price.
This is a working farm with sheep and a smoking house for fish and meat, so don't come expecting some sort of luxury hotel. The main guesthouse is beautiful inside and very comfortable-looking (at least the parts we saw). Above all, Lake Myvatn is an excellent spot to catch the Northern Lights, given its drier, clearer climate, and the sight of those glowing fronds undulating over the stunning lunar landscape surrounding the guesthouse really is something very special indeed.More
