Amalia Hotel Kalambaka
Ranked #7 of 34 Hotels in Kalambaka
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Situated on the outskirts of town towards The Meteora along the main trunk road (before Kalambaka), the hotel is a stand-alone hotel. There are no other buildings or lodging premises around! Almost a boutique hotel, quaint and sprightly, adorned with splashes and touches of native decor and furnishings. It gets very chilly in the evening, so no air-cond required in the room. Lighting in the room was bad (dim wall lights and bed lamps), mattress was hard and the thin blankets do not help. But bathroom was roomy and well-stocked with complimentary toiletries. We stayed only a night. Free Internet usage at the lobby area. Our buffet dinner and breakfast were provided, dining room always packed because guests do not eat anywhere else except at the hotel. To get anywhere, you either hire transport or rent a car.

Room Tip: Get a room closer/nearer to the lobby or reception area. If not, you have to walk quite a far bit or...

It was a very fine hotel accommodation with excellent service and meals were simply great, the pool area was fantastic, the hotel lobby and the area surrounding was huge, and looking from the street you can never imagine the hidden hotel. In fact meals and accommodation is for groups going to the Meteora. Rooms are for 4 star hotels but the service and the meals are exceptional.

This is the third Amalia my husband and I stayed at in Greece and it was pretty bad. The main common areas and the dining area were quite nice and spacious but if you value getting any sleep stay somewhere else. The beds are pretty much like sleeping on a slab of concrete. I'm not kidding. Also the hotel is way outside the town of Kalambaka/Meteora - not even walkable. Stay somewhere else in town where you will have views of the mountains and the monasteries.

stayed one night as part of tour group going to Meteora.

Hotel lobby is pleasant enough, nice gardens, with a big pool. Beware of mosquitoes. Hotel caters to big tour groups so dinner time was staggered to accommodate various groups.

Room furnishings are dated and old with carpet floor. Overall room looks depressing for me, not my choice of accommodation had I not been in a tour group. : (

We stayed at this hotel for only one night on the way to Meteora. The hotel is very large but very old and basic. It was clean and tidy but not modern enough for me! I think however this is one of the nicest hotels in the area.

The first night of my fly and drive tour across Greece was in Kalambaka at the Amalia Hotel.
The hotel is located on the main street that leads to Trikala (and then to Athens). If you don’t have a car, or if are not travelling in a group, forget to stay at the Amalia. There is nothing outside the hotel, expect the road. There is a lot of traffic so be aware to ask for a room on the quite side. Our room overlooked a wonderful garden but we had a lot of noise for the road.
The staff is friendly and helpful, in any case I WILL NEVER AGAIN stay at the Amalia in Kalambaka. The room was very dated, the bathroom at last of 25/30 years ago, there was a terrifying and smelly carpet in the room and the most important thing the room was not well cleaned (dust on the desk, on the TV, etc.). A very bad experience taking into consideration that was not a cheap stay. Finally a few words for the breakfast: TERRYFING, quality and choice of food like a 1 star hotel and not of a 4 stars.
Overall a stay rated 1.5 stars, if possible avoid Amalia Hotel.
