Hotel Meteora
Ranked #16 of 34 Hotels in Kalambaka
Reviewed June 28, 2012

This hotel is located directly across from the monoliths upon which the monasteries sit. It provides a panoramic view of the valley, the village of Kastraki and the rocks. Rooms are spare, but very clean - beds are hard (and therefore, good). Nice bathrooms with hairdryer and products. The hotel has a swimming pool, which is quite welcome in the summer! Wifi only in the lobby - we had to have the manager reset the server, but otherwise, it worked fine. There is also one computer for guest use, but it was "all Greek to me." Only negative I can say about this place is that dinner (for a tour group of 24) was ho-hum, and breakfast was adequate. Any breakfast that serves thick Greek yogurt and strong coffee is fine by me! Could be a little hard to find - it's outside Kalambaka proper, but worth the effort. I felt very much at peace there.

Room Tip: Ask for a home that faces the valley/monasteries

This hotel is virtually impossible to find. It is NOT the one in Kalambaka, and the road is poorly marked. it took 40 mins to get there even though we could see it from the local village of Kastraki. It is a big white elephant of a place but the rooms were clean and neat with extraordinary views of Meteora. It had hot water, Wifi in the lobby and a good if slightly strange selection of food for breakfast. It caters almost exclusively for tour groups so it is packed late afternoon and empty by 8.30am. independent travellers will feel a bit abandoned in the large cavernous empty spaces. The pool area is really lovely after a days walking except, and Polish Yolanda who now owns and runs the hotel is really lovely, friendly and helpful.

This modern hotel had comfortable rooms and very good food. It was too cool to use the pool when we were there. Ask for a room with a view of the Meteora.....rooms in one wing look right out onto the huge rocks and you can even spot a monastery or two clinging to the top. At dusk the rocks are lit by the setting sun and it's very beautiful.
Wi-fi only seemed to work in the lobby area but it was free. The hotel is outside of Kalambaka but you can walk to Kastraki, the little village nestled below Meteora and it's worth the time to visit. We left our balcony door open and were wakened by the roosters. The staff were pleasant and the hotel was spotless. Enjoy!

There is not a uniform rating system in Greece so if you are expecting something like Ritz Carlton you will be disappointed.
The view is stunning and the setting ideal. The pool was quite dirty but my son wasn't bothered by it after we removed most of the big bugs.
We stayed one night. We booked a triple room and when we opened the door we saw only one double bed. We went back to the front desk on our way out to the sites and asked for another bed to be brought in and they realized they put us in the wrong room. The hotel was nearly empty so it was strange they messed up on this. We had to transfer our belongings down the hallway after returning from viewing the monasteries.
The beds are Coco-Mat and are absolutely extraordinary! Most Greek hotels have horrible beds so this is quite an advantage for this property. There are no dark shades in the rooms so the light woke us in the morning. We did not have mosquitos in the room but in the summer beware and bring some repellent. There are no screens. The hot water did not work in the morning and a cold shower is not my idea of a nice way to wake up. I told them at the front desk and they said they were trying to resolve the problem. Something about switching from solar to electric. Too late for us though. My son did get a nice hot bath the night before though.
The breakfast was generous and included eggs, toast, yogurt, honey, jams, fruit and beverages among other things.
The hotel was very clean but we were shocked by the housekeeper barging into our room without knocking at about 9:00am to ask us when we were leaving. In all of my life, I have never experienced such inappropriate behavior from a housekeeper.
The wi-fi in the lobby only worked for about 20 min. for me.
Be aware that there is another hotel nearby with the same name. We first went to that one. It would be helpful if they added a good map to their website or emailed directions when you booked with them.
They have lovely public areas, a great location but room for improvement. I would recommend this hotel to friends.

Room Tip: I would recommend getting a room with a view. It is worth the extra money.

The location of this well-built, newish hotel is stunning. We over-nighted here as part of our Greece tour package. Our room (No. 203) had panoramic views of the Meteora rocks from our private balcony. The furniture in the room was new and very well-appointed, and the room was very clean and tidy with an inviting atmosphere. The shower and long-bath had a constant supply of hot water, and the hair-dryer worked beautifully.

The sit-down dinner in the restaurant was a delight, and the service was prompt. We were served risotto and mixed vegetable for starters, followed by the main course which was fish and spinach, and chocolate cake for dessert. We were even enjoyed complimentary bottled water and tea and coffee as part of our meals.

There was no internet access in the room, but free wi-fi was available in the lobby.

Overall, we had a most memorable stay at this hotel, and wished we could have stayed a bit longer.

This hotel has a spectacular view of the beautiful Meteora. The rooms were clean and spacious, beds were hard (which after 15 days in Greece and Turkey, we found normal) and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was truely GREEK and delicious!. The directions to the hotel were confusing and actually a local Kalambakan used his car to guide us to the hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms have good views.
