“steps worth it”

Lovely views, gardens interior, frescoes so glad we made the trip. Get taxi to wait for u though. These monasteries perched on the cliffs is a real wonder. this is the mother of them all.

“If you can only visit one monastery, choose this one”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

This is busy with coach tours but has the most monastery area visible of the 6 open monasteries. It has a super collection of old books and interesting displays about costume and Meteora's role in wars over the centuries. The refectory and kitchen help give a feel for how the place was used day to day in the past.

We enjoyed the visit to this Monastery. Just seeing the inside and walking along the corridors, was great. The views from inside was breathtaking.

“A majestic place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

This was one of the largest monastery and we really enjoyed exploring it. Perched on the top of this huge rock, you wonder how they built the monastery. The monasteries close around 4pm so get there well before then so you don't get disappointed.
