This was one of the largest monastery and we really enjoyed exploring it. Perched on the top of this huge rock, you wonder how they built the monastery. The monasteries close around 4pm so get there well before then so you don't get disappointed.

If you only have time to visit one monastery make it Grand Meteora. It is by far the largest one of them all and offers spectacular view onto the others. Don't forget that it is a VERY long way up the stairs. People who are badly out of shape may spend just as much time getting up and down as they would exploring the premises.
There's a museum, souvenir shop, and various observation points. I recommend visiting it in the mornings before the tour buses arrive and stairs become packed with struggling elderly people.

Have been to Meteora several times, and each time I find new wonders to behold. Megalo Meteoro Monatery is HUGE in size and takes more than an hour to enjoy. Warning! To reach the Monastery you must walk approximately 300 stair steps, so for people with walking difficulties, high blood pressure, or serious heart problems, I would suggest enjoying another Monastery. For those who can, this is a MUST see Monastery.

This is right up there with Rome. Most amazing and perfectly constructed without help from Home Depot. Wow!!
