“Great historical value”
Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

During my recent visit to the small town of Kalavryta, we visited the museum. The museum is the actual primary school where the German summoned the male inhabitants of kalavryta in order to take them to execution. The rooms (former classrooms) take you from the peaceful life the town was living before the holocaust, to how it was taken to catastrophe and how memories are still ghosting the place. Some things should not be neither forgotten nor forgiven. If you find yourselves in Kalavryta, take the time to visit. It is worth it!

“moving”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

simplicity in this case speaks a thousand words. the sculpture at the end of the walk through is the most moving I have ever seen. The pictures which were taken of the people during that period swept you into the years of the war. The trials and tribulations of the citizens in the greater area which were martyred made one realize the futility of war.

Another enchanting Greek village with charming markets, tavernas, good coffee and a haunting reminder of the Holocaust. The museum is simple, quiet and very moving.

“informative tribute”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

I think it cost E3 (concessions available) to wander around the old school now museum which also provides an approriate tribute to those who survived and those who lost their lives in this village during WW2. Some very good media presentations in English providing a powerful image of the tragedy.
The mountainside cemetary and memorial are a visible from the main street and had it been less hot (40C) we would have walked up instead we went to gaze at the clock on the town hall permanently stopped at the time of the deaths.
Of course, if you're visiting this museum then a stroll around town is a must - not too busy in early June but we would expect it gets very busy in winter as it turns into a ski resort and in the height of the summer as visitors use the rack and pinion railway.
