We made our annual fall, leaf-viewing, October visit to Eureka last week. Unfortunately, the locals say we missed the best part of the leaf color by about a week (they had strong winds when the recent cold front came through, which took off most of the good leaves)...but the good news is that our stay here was excellent, as always.
The staff is friendly and helpful, the breakfast is better that what many restaurants here serve, and the breakfast staff is very nice, too. The recent upgrades at this property, which I mentioned in my last review, continue. With new flat-screen TVs, new mattresses and bedding, and upgraded bathrooms...all very nice and much-appreciated, especially in light of the apparent deterioration of the tourist business here in Eureka.
Each time we come, the town looks a little more "slumped over" (more vacant businesses and run-down buildings). The soft economy is really taking its toll on this area...by the way Branson, Mo is also severely affected by this same trend. So, it is surprising to see this Comfort Inn making this investment in upgrades, in the face of declining tourism. Looks like they have decided to compete more aggressively for whatever business is still out there.
