We were eagerly anticipating celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in Eureka Springs and thought the Basin Park Hotel would be quaint and memorable. It was memorable, to say the least!
We rode the antiquated elevator (capacity 5) and it eventually arrived on the third floor. Thereafter we took the stairs which proved to be faster. The hallway was charming with the ceiling fans along the way. We thought the hotel had been completely redecorated, but our room was a mish-mash of a wide variety of styles from different periods in its 100 year old history. From a porcelein table, elaborate gold mirror and various other relics from a bygone past, it was not what we would call renovated. The bed was hard as a rock and slanted in one direction and the sheets felt like they'd been starched. Took forever to figure out how to get hot water out of the shower, also.
We ate dinner on the Balconey, listening to a wonderful singer/guitar player. It took around 45 minutes for my husband to get the salad and the steak arrived about 5 minutes later. My order never arrived because the kitchen (?) lost the order. I went downstairs and bought Peanut M&Ms from the desk clerk, and then headed to McDonalds. We were excited about the Starbucks /War Eagle coffee shop for breakfast. The blueberry muffin was wonderful, but my decaf coffee was cold, left over remnants from the previous day, so we ended up at McDonalds again for fresh coffee.
We will stay in one of the newer hotels in town on our next visit.
